I know I posted earlier about earthquakes in California, but what is the risk of a large earthquake in New Delhi, India? Is it as much of a seismic hot spot as California? How many people are at risk of losing their lives there in the event of such an earthquake?

The indian subcontinent is in collision with southern Asia. The impact has produced the Himalaya, the highest and youngest mountain range on the planet. Seismic activity is concentrated in the mountains, but more commonly on the Chinese side of the range. This does not rule out the possiblity of a large earthquake on the megathrust which rides over the Indian Plate.

Googling "earthquake map of India" (I can't upload a link, yet) will show you a map of this possibility.
