In Outerspace, you can't tell if someone is watching you..

In the near future, would it be possible to show that a psychic's ability to detect when someone is staring at them from behind becomes inabilised due to the vacuum of space?

And why would a vacuum render this "ability" void?

Psychics and other carnival folk usually believe that us mortals exist in the lower realms. Their 'powers' supposedly operate in the higher realms. These higher realms are supposedly unhindered by the forces of our universe. Hence, no, their powers are all but safe from petty lower-realm things like the vacuum of space. It'd be easier to prove that a psychics' ability to detect when someone is looking at them from behind, is completely inabalised [sic] whenever there's an observer. Oh, wait...that's been done, hasn't it?

I reckon it's an ultrasound like mechanism which gives us the sense of someone else's presence in the dark i.e. can't be light based and humans would have detected electric/magnetic waves in the lab.

 

People just subconsciously pick up tiny clues. There is no 'ultrasound like mechanism'

Understood. Because, as everyone knows, while we can detect e-m we can't detect ultrasound.

The 'ultrasound' idea was just an indicator and not a direct measure of the frequency. Sound waves at terrahertz frequency for example??

Because no-one has tested for this frequency eminating from the skull when a man observes a slick female from behind etc..

 

I'd agree it's likely that no one's tested under that specific condition. But are you now claiming that those conditions is the only one where this occurs?
And that we grow (and then reabsorb, or whatever) the requisite organ, on demand?

Evolutionary mechanism for conditions when it occurs, based around fear and sex. What are you talking about....I'm saying the skull acts as resonating acoustic box...no extra organs needed.

Yeah? So what generates the signal?
And what focusses it?
I'd imagine that if the skull is the box then any signal coming out of it would be pretty much omni-directional, likewise any incoming signal would be hard to localise.

If you own a testing laboratory or have a lot of money to commision such a project, then yes.

 

Adrenaline release would prime the muscles for fight or flight for example. This initial tensing would reverberate around the skeleton of the body, ending up inside the skull. The eye holes could focus this resonance into a more concentrated beam.
Think about sharks having the abililty to 'smell' your fear in the water. More likely imo that they sense the micro-vibrations of your primed muscles. Get what I mean??

Of course we never take note of when we may have a sense that someone is watching us, but there isn't anyone there. Like other coincidences, the successes are what get attention, not the other 50%.

 

Are you saying that you experience the 'being watched from behind' phenomenon and find it to be true 50% of the time then?

Here's a different way of looking at it (and I'm pretty sure it's been mentioned before). How many times have you looked around and found nobody watching you?

The reason I ask this is because it's all due to how you evaluate significance. If you look and see no one, then you don't log it in your memory or start spamming online forums with "I looked up and saw no one looking at me.", however if you lookup and see someone looking at you, you log it as a memory with the thought "thats a bit odd, am I psychic?" then you hop online and start spamming up the place with "I must be psychic, I knew someone was watching!!11110n3?"
