In modern years "Scifi" has gained more acclaim with a greater number of mediums to deliver content through, from books, to films to 'video' games. This has lessened the need for actual physical news articles to power the media and sell as articles or stories.

    What Am I suggesting?

Originally some Utilitarianism believed that one of the many requirements of mankind was war, if not for profit, if not for power and control, but for some "grail" reasoning of existence, of place, of worth amongst men.

War was seen as a common interest that even people with radically different opinions could agree to disagree on (and so say "there is war".) Uniting the planet by means of scorched earth.

Of course while people war they forget about various things that originally were important, like which fat assed politician had been dipping his hand in the tax candy jar, or why such politicians had more than three homes.

War blinds people from what is actually important and this is especially increased with propaganda.

Will there be a third world war??? Well I'm not going to be fighting one, even if the rest of you decide you want to be Utilitarian and fix all your problems by blowing each other up. At the end of the day the choice of "war" is Ours, meaning everyone of you that makes a decision to participate, sit out, or just tell them all to go to some place non-existent but termed hot and cruel.

Not likely to trigger WWIII*, even though China has more than 30 billion invested in Venezuelian oil fields and long term oil delivery contracts, but:

"Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez threatened on Sunday to cut oil supplies to the United States in case of a military attack from Colombia ... Chavez, a leftist and vocal critic of the United States, broke off diplomatic relations with Colombia last week ...

"If there was any armed aggression against Venezuela from Colombian territory or from anywhere else, promoted by the Yankee empire, we would suspend oil shipments to the United States even if we have to eat stones here," Chavez said. "We would not send a drop more to U.S. refineries," he said to a roar of approval from thousands of supporters at a rally for his Socialist party."

    Billy T comment:

The US is building or expanding 11 air bases in Columbia for fighter bombers. Two are just over the border from Brazil and the fighter bombers can attack most of Brazil.

There has been increasing friction between the US and Brazil, ever since the US supported the right-wing militray coup in Hondurous that over threw the left leaning, popular, elected president, who soon took refuge in the Brazilian Embassy, for more than a year. Also Brazil and Turkey's plan, agreed to by Iraq, for step wise transfer of most of it low enrichment uranium in exchange for corresponding parcles of the research reactor grade fuel was destroyed by the US. (The US seems determined to do Israel's wishes and attack Iran as it rejects peaceful solutions, which get the uranium out of Iran.)** US continues to insist on the totally unrealistic plan:
I.e. Iran gives up all of it low enriched URANIUM IN EXCHANGE FOR ONLY PROMISSES THAT AT SOME UNSPECIFIED FUTURE DATE that low grade U will be enriched and made into the fuel rods needed.

There is no defensive need for fighter bomber bases to be built just over the border from Brazil, but they are being built. The US has a long history of attacks on nations with large oil reserves. Thus Brazil has ordered 4 (I think) French submarines to help protect its off shore oil platforms, several dozen troop carrying helicopters, which could attack the new fighter bomber bases, if they are used; and is in final negotiation with Russia for four of their most modern Air defense batteries. (Never before sold to any other country). They are each four separated high speed rockets on multiple rocket launchers that are mobile with a separate coordination center. They are reported to be able to even hit a re-entering ICBM. Also Brazil will buy, most likely from France, a few dozen very modern intercept fighters.

**Note ex Chief of CIA stating attack may be needed here:
    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100725/ap_on_go_ot/us_us_iran or here: http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/2010072...xBHNlYwN5bi1yLWItbGVmdARzbGsDZXYtbWlsaXRhcnlh
without any mention that Iran accepted Brazil/Turkey plan to give up / ship most of its uranium out side of Iran. etc. I.e. US wants war with Iran, probably mainly because of Israel's political influence on US politics.

SUMMARY Chavez has good reason to fear the US will attack again via the Columbian proxy. The last time that happened he was out of power only for a few days. The new, right-wing, US backed government collapsed almost immediately due to massive street demonstrations of the population in support of Chavez. If this attack is repeated, it is clear the purpose of the new fighter bombers is to keep most Venezuelans off the streets with bombs.

*But who would have guessed killing one Arch Duke would trigger WWI? - So you can not be sure. Again recall that when I speak of WWIII, that refers to economic war, not one of bombs and bullets. In that war, China is holding the "big guns."

Now I am not alone in thinking WWIII is currently in progress and China is winning. See Forbes article here: http://blogs.forbes.com/greatspeculations/2010/08/13/china-is-winning-the-economic-war/

More than 50 posts back in this thread, I said the real war is economic and China is winning. See that here: http://www.sciforums.com/showpost.php?p=2549822&postcount=291

I said the same in other thread some years ago; explaining that China would use dollars from reserves to buy real assets it will need* and then would reduce its buying of US Treasury paper** to also reduce the cost of dumping US bonds when it has switched to a domestic rather than export economy. Then the one time loss on China's remaining US bonds will be more than compensated EVERY YEAR in lower cost of importing coal, oil, gas, minerals, wood, steel, rubber, etc. and food stocks with no buying from economically broken US and EU. I.e. China can send US & EU into deep depression any time it wishes, but needs a few year more to convert to a domestic market economy and to spend more of its paper dollars before it makes good economic sense for them to "kill the dollar." When it does, China will be happy to kill the dollar and demonstrate that their economic system is superior. (I have several times explained why it is superior.)

    * For where and in what the 162.8 billion in last five years was spent on see: http://www.forbes.com/2010/08/17/ch...na-tracker.html?partner=globalnews_newsletter
Note the pace of these foreign purchases/ investments is rapidly growing: Only 8.4 billion in 2005, but in 2008 & 2009 54 & 50 billion.

China has started to cut back its US paper holdings, mainly by not rolling maturing longer term bonds.***

*** That increases the US's need to print even more money to pay China off. GWB's depression is coming and Obama can only hope to delay it until his 1st term is over. The economic death of the USA is less than five years away now. In less than five years, no one will lend dollars to cover US deficits so the FED / Treasury printing presses will run 24/7 to pay off maturing bonds as well as the growing budget deficits. All will be dumping / spending their dollars ASAP. - I.e. a run on the dollar, ending in deep long lasting depression in US & EU.
