"comic genius" of Will & Grace and Seinfeld?

Not even on my radar of "genius" - Seinfeld might get a look-in, but Will & Grace??

You may need to expand on what you mean by "with funny it's a quality that is universal"... are you saying that everyone finds the same thing funny??

When you can't use simple offensive "fart jokes" you are forced to be creative and add Irony, Sarcasm, Under-tones, and use complex plot derived jokes that are alot harder to produce.

Perfect example would be t compare Family Guy to say Futurama. One obviously took more writing skill to produce and in my opinion the latter is cleaner and far greater in deeper lasting humour. A fart joke will never become a classic you can watch on repeat. But a truly good piece of commedy you can laugh at it time and time again without it getting old, fast.

    Peace

Not to get too offtopic, but Seinfeld is considered the all time funniest show and having the 3rd biggest audience for its last episode.

How many sitcoms are running strong in syndication 13 years after they ended, specially on the basic networks??

    @BOTH Birch and Keln:

You both look pretty silly spitting your "stereotypes" of who is and isn't arrogant and what not. Truth is, whether rich or poor, HOMELESS or not, educated or not, superior intelligence or dumb as a box of rocks...... there are people from all classes, all educational levels, all mental capacities, that have attitudes and those who don't. I personally have known homeless people, lower class people who are highly intelligent that do not have attitudes. I have known lower class, poor people with attitudes, rich people with attitudes, people who have come out of rags to riches with attitudes and those not. My mother in law Rags to riches with ridiculous attitude and no brains. My economics teacher wore the same clothing week after week, dug for recycleables and when I asked him for a reference and went to his home? He was a humble, filthy rich genuis that treated his wife like a queen. He, also, treated everyone with kindness, even those who picked on him. Those are just two immediate examples that quickly come to mind. To categorize people as this and that, say certain people act a certain way is just plain ignorance and perhaps shows a lack of discernment and intelligence on both of your parts. Just wondering who died and appointed you both to pinpoint certain characteristics and traits on people to begin with? You both are going tit for tat but doing the same thing.

I still see MASH every so often , which for its time was considered the "best" show of all time. Many shows are not being televised today that would be enjoyed just as much as when they were made, MASH being a good example.

Can you name the longest-running comedy in the entire history of television?

    The Simpsons. 22 years.

Radio Rochela has been running on TV since 1960, but so what? House is awesome, and if you hate it, then don't watch.

there is nothing more annoying on forums than those who argue points against the exact same point made by another pretending they made an opposing point. that's called delusional.

if you could read, it was made clear that social status is not the issue. again, that is if you actually read and comprehend the point. i don't need your preaching the exact same point to me that i made as if i didn't.

the reason why i made some allowances for homeless is that most seem to have opted out of the whole rat race and seem pretty egoless for the most part in comparison to everyone else.

Longest running doesn't equal best or most popular....

    Yeah, why not.

    I said what I said.
With all due respect I have nothing to do with your interpretation of what I said. If I wanted to link universal with the word everyone...I would have.

Sort of a schism there. Family Guy is bellow my standards of ethics so I've never seen it. I've never seen Futurama either. But I think I understand.

Family Guy is annoyingly stupid, I wouldn't suggest watching it, on the other hand Futurama I would recommend, it's quite funny and clean.

I've never heard anything about Futurama so positive.
    I'll give it a try.

Just so you don't get a bad first impression with a random terrible Episode, I shall suggest a few "Good uns"

    Brannigan Begin again. (Season 2)
War is the "H-Word" (Season 3)
Bender should not be allowed on TV (Season 5)
    Godfellas (Season 4)

I think it's clean and in good taste ^_^ it shouldn't offend you I don't think.

    Peace.

    Exartly!

    Exactly correct.

I would note a common phenomenon I've witnessed among some psychologists. Eventually, some tire of listening to people's problems—psychotherapy, the "talking cure", is a time-consuming and, ultimately, depressing phenomenon.

Dr. Phil is perhaps the foremost example of what happens when a psychologist gets tired of their job. He wants to exercise greater control over his patients. Even ignoring the fact that it's a television show, which ought to tell us quite a bit in itself, he is impatient, and does not want to wait for psychotherapy to follow its devices. Rather, he wants to tell people what to do. This rarely solves a neurotic conflict, merely displaces it.

I have a friend who decided to quit being a thereapeutic psychologist and enter that dubious field known as "life coaching". For him, perhaps it was a matter of age; he is officially "retired", and the life coaching thing is a small side enterprise that he's not doing a whole lot of. But there is a clear difference between the two practices.

Criminal Minds, the CBS crime drama, happens to be exploiting the life coaching phenomenon in tonight's episode. I have no idea how that's going to go over, other than someone seems to be doing a Kathy Bates circa Misery.

    People want control.

The character of Dr. House is very domineering. That, combined with his stylish depiction, is the appeal.

The reason I watch House is because it is funny.Generally I like the sidestories better than the case itself. The episodes with a story arch are the best.
And House himself suffers a lot for being a jerk. He was shot, punched in the face, the detective eventually put him into the mental institution, and until now ending up with Cuddy, he was generally miserable.

Oh yeah and he has been in constant pain, that usually doesn't lift one's mood....

Bottomline is, it isn't his rudeness that appeals to me (as the OP suggests) but the shows wittiness...
