How many times has a forum, email list, bulletin board, chat room, or other "social network" had a "big loud fish" in it that acted the narcissist, the bully, the blatant misquoter, the requester of redundancy, the representer of reality, the anti-focus sustainer, etc. The discussion never takes place, and certainly nothing "social" ever takes place... merely banter, arguing, fragmented and frustrated contact?! I have found that if you keep your nose clean around this forum you'll do fine. Salient points get made and healthy debate ensues. If nothing else, this forum moderates itself 90% of the time.
I heard something about this. I've long suspected this, and have observed that on some forums or news sites that allow comments, certain subjects immediately get innundated with a chorus of cookie cutter condemnations and ridicule, often heavily centered on ad hominem, childish tactics. I don't see alot of that here, as jmpet pointed out, but I have no doubts that interested parties can and do take advantage of sock puppet mobs, aided by software or other means.
What the prob. We have a saying in my old business . The only stupid question is the one not asked. I think this type of forum is wonderful the way it is . You never know when the lowest person on the totem pole will think a brilliant thought even by shear accident . Or from thinking from a new angel . I listen to the laborers. You might be surprised what they can come up with
