An interesting new item from sciencedaily.

    http://www.sciencedaily.com:80/releases/2011/03/110311153541.htm

This kinda turns a few things around in relation to longevity. Being happy and loved and optimistic, and carefree are actually negatives in relation to longevity. Being a worrier does not stop you living a long time. Working longer into normal retirement age actually improves your chances of reaching a good age.

Marriage is good, but only for men, and only if they are in a single long term marriage. Divorced and single men live less long. Even getting remarried does not help divorced men.

Pets do not help. Combat veterans live shorter lives. Starting school too early assists early death.

A bit of a turn round.

Your genes have a great deal to do with it as well. Having parents that lived long lives seems to help with your own lifespan as well.

Read that first thing this AM myself. The salient point was that prudence and persistence were the personality traits that allow one to live longer.

Makes sense too, if you consider it: you decide to change your diet and exercise patterns to conform to a healthier way of living and then stick with it. You then reap the benefits of doing that. It doesn't count if you don't stick with the program, that is where the persistence comes in.

If pessimism insures a long life, I am going to live to be 100. I am the most pessimistic person I know.

Yeah, and I will be seriously pissed if someone demands I retire at 60 or 65. I'll retire when I'm either physically or mentally unable to work, thanks. If I don't have a job to make me get out of bed, I may not.
    I hate not working.

I'm not too fussed about living to be 100. I'm more focused on living a worthwhile life, than a particularly long one.

As cosmictraveller said, good genes can help. Maybe there is still hope for you.

I could do you a deal on a piece of liver..I wanna keep my braincell 'cos by a process of quantum metaphysical entanglement using hydrolysis and a spark-plug, I can be re-animated and become a living surrogate of the God-head..

While my alcohol marinated liver could probably do with a boost, I will stick to what I have.

Anyway, on the bright side, all this bad news is boosting everyone's pessimism, making them live longer. Whoops, that might make them optimists. Forget I said anything.

    Pessimists don't live longer.

It just seems like they do, for all involved.

It's probably because pessimists live life in a safe way.

When you are an optimist, you don't care about anything in life and you live every day like it was your last.

I've always believed that if you have a positive and cheery outlook on life, not only will you enjoy it a lot more, but you'll also live longer

When you hate life, it just seems longer...
