Douglas Adams Lugo, Douglas Adams book, "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" contained this little gem. Just read it-- otherwise it doesn't do justice to try and explain it. The really freaky thing about 42 is that I'm 42. I hope 42 is less of a let down for me than it was for Phouchg and Loonquawl.
Maybe at 42 you will receive some magical knowledge about the mysteries of life, and then depending on how well you were able to process the info, your personality will either change for the better or the worse.
And it's like a pinball bonus It's like pinball, see--if you tackle the Ultimate Question and get 42 ten times in a row, you get a free round. :m:, Tiassa Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!

Deep thought took seven million to get 42, and the earth was suposed to find the question. When Arthur and Trillian escaped they decided to use "How many roads must a man walk down?" Just read the book. BTW what's this doing in religion? You think he was serious?
Andre--nifty "Generations" link Andre, you're one of the first people I've known around here to be aware of the forty-two generations; thanks for the link--I'd never really gotten around to seeking more info. It brings me to mind of an old topic, over two years old now: Something about playing God ...? I was playing around with forty-two and the Bible at the time: Just for the heck of it. :m:, Tiassa Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Why ...? What I don't get is why people make this distinction. Christianity alleges to be montheistic. :m:, Tiassa Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
I haven't seen it in a long time, but I thought that the question was found in the TV series to be, "What is 6 x 8?" And the comment by one of the characters was "No wonder the universe is so screwed up."
