A military helicopter was shot down in eastern Afghanistan, killing 31 U.S. special operation troops, most of them from the elite Navy SEALs unit that killed al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden, along with seven Afghan commandos. It was the deadliest single incident for American forces in the decade-long war. How many actually participated in the bin Laden raid was not known.

U.S. officials believe that none of those who died in the crash had participated in the bin Laden raid, although they were from the same unit that carried out that mission, two officials told The Associated Press. They spoke about matters of military security on condition of anonymity.

Question: When isn't it a coincidence any more?

How about something neither branch could do; dance a big bird like the CH-47 through incoming RPG fire without getting hit? I'll sure be glad when we declare victory and get out of there.

This mission had some Afghanistan army people on board with them as well. I'm wondering if one of those Afghanistan military personnel were a traitor and let the Teliban know about this mission before it took off?

What I love about this is a multi million dollar vessel carrying a highly trained team being shot down by what is basically a 50 bucks weapon.

From what I'm reading, none of the sailors killed were actually involved in the raid. Same unit, different team. Or something like that.

If as I do, you believe that Osama-bin-dead-since-2001 was not captured and killed in Pakistan this year, then is there any real reason to believe that a team of assassins even went in. Perhaps, yes because you need a show to make the ruse as convincing as possible. No need to actually have OBL there, whether living or dead as long as you're sure that he's not going to pop up somewhere else. Just leave a few dead bodies behind and someone who can confirm the cover story and you're out of there.

Concoct a fictitious burial-at-sea as an excuse for not having a body to show and then stand by your ridiculous story come hell or high water. Job Done!

They wouldn't be able to accomplish that with only a few dozen casualties between the two incidents. They would also have to create the entire Al Qaeda organization worldwide, as well as the Taliban, and keep them in on the loop and cooperating all the way to the present.

Sorry but I can't tell if you're using sarcasm here. Of course they created the Al Qaeda organisation - bought and paid for with our deficit. Any Afghani tribal leader who doesn't dance to the US tune gets labelled Al Qaeda and becomes a legitimate target. For example, rt.com/news/al-qaeda-phantom-iraq/.

Britains late Robin Cook who was Foreign Minister when he died just 4 weeks after he described Al-Qaeda as a product of western intelligence:

"Bin Laden was, though, a product of a monumental miscalculation by Western security agencies. Throughout the 80s he was armed by the CIA and funded by the Saudis to wage jihad against the Russian occupation of Afghanistan. Al-Qaida, literally "the database", was originally the computer file of the thousands of mujahideen who were recruited and trained with help from the CIA to defeat the Russians." (Robin Cook - Wikipedia)

I'm sure that had nothing to do with his sudden death.

The Taliban, too, are a bit of an elusive entity but fortunately the west have a Taliban spokesman to hand for interacting with the news media.

I'm not sure about the number of casualties that you refer to but aircraft crashes of convenience are just too numerous to be all coincidence.

I don't intend disrespect for the deceased or their families but I will not put any faith in any official story from the people who brought us 9/11.

So they say. But no one really knows who was in the raid as nearly all personalities involved in it have identities that are a national secret.

Tell that to the SEALs who use the 160th for all their missions, including maritime stuff. (Branch hate is beyond retarded.)

    It happens.

Note that the first link (Operation REDWING) was also a MH-47 full of SEALs, who were also the QRF sent to back up a team that was already in contact with the enemy. That event was the largest single-event loss of life in US special operations history. Until yesterday.

How different would the war in Afghanistan be if some nation was supplying something like stinger missiles to the Taliban?

Remarkable. Big story, big heroes. But when 12 innocent Afghan civilians get hit by a drone, its not news. Despicable. :m:

    Actually, not so much.

For one--and you'll have to just take my word on this--my brother works at the NSA in a highly compartmentalized unit that deals with this very sort of communication traffic. He has access to the mission briefings. He's seen the OBL raid footage, audio and photos. His team (previous to him joining it several months ago) was one of the teams that got to inspect some of the hardware. He's certain that not all of them were on the chopper (though he can't confirm that none of them were). Team Six is really small, the overlap in assignments is very great.

Second off, if you really believe that there is a US government conspiracy to wipe out all of the SEALs--at once--then, well, that's pretty silly. Any government with the power to pull off all the nefarious deeds that you are accusing it of, would surely have access to poisons and other sordid methods that could all take place at disparate times and disparate places so as to not draw such immediate attention.

Third off, the names of the Team 6 members aren't "top secret", they are "secret" and the names have already been leaked to several reporters (and a gazillion government officials including their governors, representatives and congressmen) who've interviewed them and told their story. These reporters work for major national newspapers (newspapers which, I might add, don't treat government secrecy with much respect) and these reporters could very easily be digging right now into this business. Thus far, none of them have said anything fishy is going on.

It's not that I trust my government so much, it's just that I trust that my government doesn't have the ability to carry out such a mission and get away with it.

And why would they kill the Team 6 members? Even Al Qaeda and their people are declaring OBL dead. Are they in on it too with the CIA?

And given the size of this possible conspiracy--involving literally thousands of people--one wonders how my government, which leaks like a sieve, has been able to duplicitously keep it such a secret.

It would mean you couldn't occupy the country without either a much larger troop presence, or else a good deal of ethnic cleansing and territorial annexation.

We did that in Vietnam and still got our butts kicked.
