With time I will present a convincing argument that the Terrestrial Earth was once compressed to a fraction of it's current volume. Well note i say terrestrial Earth which is that part we stand on today. The reason think this can happen is that there used to be a vast ocean on volatile matter associated with the Earth, to the point where the total mass of the Earth was between 20 - 50 times the current mass.
And Robbitybob1 firmly nails his colours to the mast of HMS Insanity and sails off into the sunset...
Yes once or as the volatiles had/were blown off by the intense solar wind the compressed core and magma were able to expand the Earth up in volume again.
Good luck with that. You might want to review the following Formal Debate on the topic that I had with another member a while ago: [thread=86898]Debate: The Earth is expanding[/thread]
Thanks that had some real great links in it. Very helpful. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! My main discussion has been on http://www.physforum.com/index.php?showtopic=29842&st=0 but you know how they go there is a lot of rubbish to work through but when I read it it seems very good. But the science of it has got well over my head. I am hoping someone else will link up and work it through. Actually it was another thread i was thing of similar name; "Is the Earth Expanding?" http://www.sciforums.com/showthread.php?t=107740 In fact skimming through them there is a swag of information. And I see you tend to take the negative view. OK my theory is quite a bit different than the Expanding Earth Theory but similar in some ways. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Modern day Compressed Earth advocates. From Wikipedia On the subject of Expanding Earth. "Present day advocates Australian Geologist James Maxlow has produced a series of twenty-three reconstructions of a smaller Earth suggesting a 99%[20] matching of all the continental boundaries. Italian Geologist Giancarlo Scalera has written several papers[21] in support of evidence for an expanding Earth. Whole-earth decompression dynamics was proposed in 2005 by J. Marvin Herndon who postulates Earth formation from a Jupiter-sized gas giant by catastrophic loss of its gaseous atmosphere with subsequent decompression and expansion of the rocky remnant planet resulting in decompression cracks at continental margins which are filled in by basalts from mid-ocean ridges.[22]" Ok Note: I don't buy any of the other alternative causes. So what I need to do is see why this J marvin Herndon thought the Earth had this extreme mass? The link from the wikipedia page takes you to a scientific paper by Herndon. "Whole-earth decompression dynamics J. Marvin Herndon Transdyne Corporation, 11044 Red Rock Drive, San Diego, CA 92131, USA" It was the first time I had read that article but it aligns with my figures that I put together in 1998. Now Herndon has done a much more detailed study than I could, so I would say it is a must read. I am a bit surprised at the size that he proposes the early Earth to be (300 times Earth masses??). Who knows but really over the required amount it isn't that important.
Once you get over 50 Earth masses the compression in the inner cores can be significant due to degeneracy of the iron core and I didn't see him mention that. There are at times other unforeseen aspects in science and only by extensive analysis will the facts truly surface. I have yet to try and contact this person (Herndon) to see if further facts can be ascertained.
Expanding Earth has been done here. Can we just skip the intermediate steps and go straight to the cesspool?
Well I'll try and keep it different than the last times. It will be useful to take the best bits out of two former attempts on this topic and see if it can be advanced any. It is not easy to keep a topic fresh. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Do you mean the Bilge? If you don't mean "The Bilge", where is this place? Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
If the Earth is now cooling maybe this is as serious as global warming in contributing to the rising sea levels. There must come a time when the radioactivity of the Earth layers slows and the rate of cooling exceeds heat make-up.
But it is good enough to be in the "On the Fringe : Alternative Theories" section on the Sciforums! Does "I need to scientifically prove something" make it better? Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
