Sorry to create yet another thread about this; I swore to myself I wouldn't. But then, I never thought my story would climb to the top of any chart, either. When WOOL hit the top twenty in all of science fiction on Amazon, I figured it was a fluke. There's no way it deserves to be on the front page. Then it climbed to #19, #18, and now #17. Then I noticed that it's #1 in the category of "Science Fiction Anthologies." Over the entire collected works of H.P. Lovecraft! And it's in the top 700 in paid Kindle books. :bugeye: Makes no sense to me. I just wanted to toot my horn a little and thank all of you who egged me on. I wish I knew which poster on SciForums responded so enthusiastically to one of my boating adventures five or six years ago. Whoever it was, they were one of the catalysts that got me seriously thinking about writing more and sharing with others. Also: the offer remains to send SF members a free PDF of the story. Just message me. This forum was my home for many years (and is still a place I come to unwind and read). I'll always owe it and its members some debt to my success. That's the one comment people make, which I take as a compliment! And at 20,000 words, it's longer than a short story and just below a novella. But don't worry, I'm crafting the follow-up stories right now!

Can you or anyone else tell me about this book? What's the plot about? How fast does it read? I mean does it grab your attention quickly and then hold on to it until the end? While searching around I came across a post by swivel in The Demon's Den and yes he was promoting his book. He should have brought his avatar too. I liked it very much. Anyway I'm not opposed to free advertizing and I'd probably do the same thing in his position. I just want to hear from people that have read his book.
It's a pretty dark story. I'm surprised, actually, that this is what's taking off of all the things I've written. Easily my most dystopian tale. It's a story about a man who has lost his wife and is just about to give up all hope, so he expends what's left in a suicidal gesture. He is the sheriff of a large community of men and women who live underground. The outside world is inhospitable. Their only view of it is displayed on the uppermost walls of this grand silo in which they all live. This view steadily clouds until a man or woman commits a crime so heinous that they are exiled and asked to clean the sensors. This man's wife was the last to perform this duty. As sheriff, he had been responsible for seeing it through. And now, after three years of wondering what drove her mad, he is on the verge of doing the same thing and following her to his death. The rest of your questions are difficult to answer as the writer. I have been surprised by the Amazon reviews, many of which state they read the story in a single reading and found it gripping. And yeah, I've been active on two forums in my life. This one and a true crime site my best friend and I started almost a decade ago. I credit my time on forums with learning to weave an interesting tale, learning to write often and (mostly) correctly. I've always given my writing away to members of both sites, perhaps out of recognition of this debt I owe. In fact, it was SF and DD members who read the first part of my debut novel and suggested it was strong enough to seek publication! You've gotten me interested in the genre of apocalyptic novels. "The Old Man and the Wasteland" was also very good (99cents on Amazon).
