Did you know that during the Full Moon there are 50% more murders?

I concur, this is a rational explanation.

This makes sense. I like to go biking when there is a full moon when the moon is at its peak (around midnight). I have seen various people about during these nights, people just enjoying a different landscape and color. It is really amazingly bright once your eyes get used to it.

It is no coincidence that some land animals have their natural rhythms tied to the lunar cycle. Biological activity is higher when there is more light, this includes full moons. Once when I was biking late at night, I came across some guys fishing at a bridge - I thought to myself, that must be the most enjoyable time to go fishing; and I suppose fish are more active in the moonlight too.

DRZion is right, as is Enmos. There is an extremely simple explanation.

Full Moon = More Light = More Activity

I have been to quite a few full-moon parties. It's the same thing with New Year's Eve etc. Just less sleep and more activity in general in these times. Emergency room visits should be a little higher because people are doing more.

    Simple. Done. No gravity needed.

I never heard of a full moon party. Your town must be "very" exciting.

    @ DRzion,
    What position are you representing?

Suggesting that natural rhythms and biological cycles are tied to lunar activity seems to profess more of a belief in the moon affecting our physiology than the argument that we just like to go out when we can see.

I don't have an opinion, as I did not know any statistics and would like to see them verified before I develop one.

I just think Drzion is presenting 2 opinions.

I have heard of a guy who plays the stock market based on lunar cycles so maybe some people believe in this stuff enough to look at the facts and consider.

I reject the argument that 50% more (if that's the case) murders would occur at full moon, simply because of "full moon parties and extra light. Many murders occur during daytimes and evenings, and would suggest that perhaps the moons influence is somewhat more than we imagine.

Astrology came to us from ancient civilizations, and we (I do) dismiss it because we think it is ancient and unscientific, however it came from civilizations that claimed space travel and had advance math, astronomy, and written language (Sumerian's, who claim they had aliens/gods among them).

I found this post interesting and would like to look at the statistics myself.

    Lunacy is a myth.

    A myth, you say?

Perhaps in terms of proving relationship to the phases of the moon, yet there are observably sufficient demonstrations of intermittent insanity to show that 'lunacy' or extravagant folly is very typical of most of our species.

Interesting to observe that we are equally suspicious of persons who do not demonstrate some breaks of form, for they also strike us as being 'unnatural'. Most seek a balance between replete reservation and extreme volatility, IMO.

This has been disproved so many times it ought not get any coverage at all now. There is no increase in violence, in murder, in rape, in domestic violence, in auto accidents or in ER visits in general during a full moon.

Why do people so want to believe this crap?

Even a few seconds of rational thought should reveal the fallacy here. A full moon makes it much more likely that you will be seen, and be able to be identified, if you commit burglary.
