    There are supposed to be lots of Bodhisattvas. I guess that arguably in Mahayana, anyone who takes the Bodhisattva vows is on the Bodhisattva path. Unless they fall off. Those who have been on the path for lifetimes beyond counting have supposedly evolved into heavenly beings capable of bestowing something analogous to divine grace.

    Part of that evolutionary process is supposed to be reducing and ultimately losing one's self-involvement through infinite compassion. So bragging about being a Bodhisattva kind of ruins the effect.
