    They kill plants too.
They find a plant they like the smell of, and attack it..
Here's a video of them doing it. In a Graveyard!

Did you try relocating the cat box into the corner of the bathroom that he crapped in?
Also from experience using bleaches and stuff to remove the smell is like a declaration of war to a cat. He will keep on adding his smell if you remove it or cover it up. You can't win because cats are relentless.

What you can do is get some cat pheromones (vets sell it) and spray it is the corner after you've cleaned there. It works.

To be clear, he did lock the cat in the bedroom. It is hardly fair to try to discipline the cat when it is the human at fault.

It is the cat's fault. They should be able to hold it in until they die from starvation. Or catnip OD. :m:

Spray the area you don't want them to return to, with a mixture of water and ammonia. The Ammonia smell, they can't stand. For sensitive pet noses, it's a one time thing.

My cat laughs at your ammonia, the ammonia smell of his urine is more than a match for mere off the shelf ammonia!
In an escalating smelly substance war with a cat you'll only lose, unless go for the CX gas straight off.

Baking soda is commonly added to cat litter to reduce the odor of cat urine.

(Our old kitty is fading and has had a few mishaps of late after 18 1/2 years of asking to go outside in any tenable weather and finally learning that it was acceptable to use a litter box indoors, especially in winter. Mobility is becoming an issue for him.

    Poor old boy....)

Sprinkle it as a powder on carpet and work in with a brush. Let stand for an hour or more. Vacuum to pick back up.

On smooth surfaces, make a paste by adding just enough water to get desired consistency. Apply paste with a cloth or sponge. Let stand or scrub depending on the surface to be cleaned. Use a cloth/sponge and water to rinse and dry.

Here is a list of the many uses of this inexpensive product.

Leave a open box of baking powder near the source after you clean it with what you chose. I had cats an dogs when I was younger. Just like in the refrigerator. The baking powder helps absorb smells. You may find a cleaner with that in it. It may help too

Use club soda to scrub the place after cleaning up, then sprinkle baking soda over the "accident" spot. Let the baking soda stand for an hour or so then vacuum or brush it up

Chain a Doberman to the spot favoured by the cat.

In my opinion you should cover that place with something like carpet and keep it there permanently.

In a room that frequently gets pet accidents or any kind of heavy use, you should consider using area rugs instead of carpeting. Get them as big or as small as you want, as nice-looking or as utilitarian as you want. You can even come up with ways of attaching the edges together so they don't gap.

The advantage of area rugs is that you can call somebody and they will come to your house, pull them out, and take them back to their place where they have gigantic industrial washing machines that will really clean the crap out of them. None of this pussy-wussy business of going over it with a wand that squirts soap and then another one that sucks it up, finishing the whole damn house in an hour and never even touching the filthy bottom side.

This is what we do with our Persian rugs. If they can get those fifty year-old hand-woven natural fibers clean, you can bet it's piece of cake to clean something from Target, made by machines from synthetic fibers.

Most of us like our pets on the bed with us, unless it's a Great Dane or a capybara. That means their bladders have to make it through the night.

Unless you happen to live in a place where it's both comfortable (weather) and safe (raccoons) to leave a door or window open. Even cat flaps aren't raccoon-proof. And raccoons have pretty much taken over this entire country, just like the deer.

These days there's tremendous antipathy toward the practice of letting cats outside at all, since they kill something like one billion birds every year, just in the USA. So yeah, make sure the cat has an open route from the bedroom to the sandbox.

With great sadness I've stopped supporting Alley Cat Allies, a charity that ministers to feral cat colonies by vaccinating and neutering them. They only manage to trap and neuter about 80% of them, so the fertility of the other 20% easily maintains the population. I'll let the municipal authorities round them up and impound them. That's really sad, but hey I'm a bird lover too.
