I agree with you but the foolishness is based on a lack of options not on self confidence. See? You're not always right.
    I'm married to you, remember?

I agree with you, but I am always right, that's how I managed to control your options from the beginning. Your foolishness is leading to you believe the lack of options was by chance. I'm going to get some sleep now and as always you will be in total agreement with me.

note to QW: Neverfly and I are married. .... to each other even.

Sneaky bitch? Why thanks for noticing, I agree with you. And yes, we are married to each other, remember when I explained about privileges vs rights?

    I agree, as are you.

I must say QW this technique really does bring a couple into sincere agreement. Hat's off to you sir!

Having done due diligence in reading the thread thus far, quantum-wave, is the point of this thread that you are seriously concerned about future living conditions in the United States, notably Florida, should the current economic circumstances worsen? Possibly thinking that your wife may not be as concerned about such prospects as yourself or disinclined to move away from family regardless of real or perceived future dangers? Just fishing for the potential motivation in your opening post....

(A bigger fishing boat would be handy if you move to coastal Alaska.....halibut and salmon come to mind....some of my friends traverse over annually to fish.)

You live in the Yukon, don't you. Are there any gold mining claims left? I've been watching Gold Rush on the Discovery channel and enjoying the series. But I guess the easy gold has been panned out.

When I say takers I mean people who think government should provide more and more at the expense of those who work and pay taxes. There has to be some limit on taxes because there is no control on spending. In the face of hardship, government solves it with promises of entitlements, and pays for the entitlements with taxes, or borrowing instead of exercising fiscal responsibility.

A society gets to the point where increased taxes results in decreased tax revenue because the tax payers decide it isn't worth it to work harder and harder when government simply takes their productivity away in taxes and gives it to the lastest group who voted for them becasue they were promised the entitlement. That is what I call the tax payers going on strike. Free food, free phones, free education, free health care, ... fine, it helps people who are needy, but as I said in the OP, "We have to find a place where there are people who take responsibility, who believe in self-reliance, who believe in helping the needy and where the needy do their best not to be".

My wife and I have begun to talk about it. When I say someplace safe from the takers if they become angry mobs who claim we don't deserve our property, she thinks we could build a fence and join a neighborhood watch, and I'm more into keeping our passports up to date as someone suggested and/or having a safe place to head to when and if the time comes, lol. What is the attitude in your neighborhood?
