    Your Speed Result:
Download Speed: 10337 kbps (1292.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 1540 kbps (192.5 KB/sec transfer rate)

    http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/

This is unlimited fiber optic. Speed is quick enough for Television and Movies without delay. I was honestly surprised to see others with better speeds as I have a higher end package.

Using the speed test you provided I had.

    Your Speed Result:
Download Speed: 13311 kbps (1663.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 2955 kbps (369.4 KB/sec transfer rate)

And I have the lowest priced service offered by Wavecable, advertized as 15 Mbps. If I wanted to pay more I could get the 50 Mbps service. I think maybe you should shop around a bit for a new service or maybe get a better contract with the company you are using.

    @ killjoyclown,

I am unsure the package I have, as it is in a bundle, but I'm guessing I could upgrade it then. I think Fiber Optic is one of the best methods so I am sure I can probably improve on it. I honestly have not examined the speed since it was installed, but for my needs I could likely downgrade and I stream constantly with netflix etc.

According to Bell FIBE I can get

"Blazing-fast download speeds of up to 25 Mbps, enough for everyone in your home.

Fast upload speeds, up to 10 Mbps"

So I am obviously not on the highest rung.

As long as you can do everything you want to, that's what counts. However, most IP's are offering 15 & 20 Mbits download speeds as their starting low cost options now. It's always good to check out what's being offered in your area. At least knowing that gives you something to bargain with even if you want to stay with the same company your with now.

Four years ago when I lived in Tucson I had fiber to the house with COX cable at only 7 Mbits and I was very happy with that. But I wasn't trying to stream HD TV back then either. If you are into downloading a lot of music having a multi-terabyte hard drive might be more important than upgrading your download speed.

At the weekend house, about 80 yards from the neighbours, I installed a booster. Now on the deck a good another 50 yards away I get 10 Mbps, I was impressed like hell. In the house it is only 6-7 but it has to go through the walls...

Depends on how much data i need to send these days. if it is less than 1TB, it takes about 5 days. If it is more than 1TB it is about 2 or 3 days depending on if FEDEX is shipping that day

I tried 3 different speed tests and got 3 very different results. Next I tried the same test at different times and got 3 different results. One of the tests allowed you to select different cities to test to and each city returned a different result.

However, if I were you I would call my providers tech support and complain that you are not getting what you are paying for. If they promised you 6 mbits and you are getting less than one, that's a problem.

When I first signed up with Wavecable the service was only 7 mbits and the modem provided worked great. However when they increased their basic service up to 15 mbits, the modem I have seems to crap out in the afternoons. When I complained about it I was told that I needed to upgrade my modem to one of the new 4 channel models. So I ordered one and am waiting for it to arrive next week.

Just installed my new modem a Motorola SURFboard SB6120 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem, it replaced a Motorola SURFboard SB5101 DOCSIS 2.0. Anyway I ran the following speed test.

The test with the new modem was about 5 Mbits faster on download and about 3 Mbits faster on the upload, using the same service as when I last tested this speed. The new modem has made a big difference.

Clear wireless internet. 45 dollars per month. Cleveland OH USA. They were bought by Sprint and since then i dont think they are taking new customers. I paid 20$ for my original wireless modem and about a year ago they told me that it was not working correctly and sent me a new one free.
