And I didn't even have to look that up, of course I do live in Alberta...

Anyway, I agree that Americans tend to be very ignorant about Canada, and I think that if I had to sit through classes and classes about American history, politics, geography, industry etc. in high school, they could at least learn just a bit about Canada. Like that we too have a season called summer, it doesn't snow here all the time! (Okay, I admit that it is snowing right now...but that means nothing...really) I don't hate americans though. I find it annoying when some Canadians like to consider themselves somehow superior to americans, I'm sure there's lots of ignorant Canadians too. Besides, if all americans were really informed about Canada, there would be no "Talking to Americans", and that would be a big loss

We do learn American history, politics and geography here. As well as economics. At least, in Toronto we do. Can't speak for the Albertan system!

In fact, I'd say it's about a 60/40 split on students who took World History/American History this year (grade eleven).

In the end we are all just humans divided by terrortories and pride. We must overcome that through inlighentment, diligence, and intelligence...because when the end is upon us there will be no one there for us except us.

Read my other post on that and that was a joke...good lord, you can't expect humanity to ever ban together on anything, because killing ourselves to resolve problems is easier than working through them. Any way can we ever get along? it seems unlikely....countries have gotten together to work on certein projects but all of humanity will never agree on one topic unless god himself/herself came down and asked us to ban together....but then still there would a community of drunks who will tell him/her to piss off.

Europe hates America because it took them several hundred years to not even barely advance to America's level that we got to in 200 years. :m:

Yea, at the high school level, there are a lot of idiots in high school. Our public school education sucks.

But no country matches what our private schools offer and no country may ever top what college and university education we can offer (with one exception: maybe Oxford and Cambridge, everything else is trash).

    U.S. rules, sorry!

I would just like to point out, that in Britian public school is the one the rich pay for,so if its the same in the US don't pay & go to State school for free!

"with one exception: maybe Oxford and Cambridge, everything else is trash"

That's utterly ridiculous. Two of the top business schools in the world are right here in Ontario - Ivy at Western and Shulich at York. The US does not nearly have all the top-rated universities.

Forgive me for being without-resource here, but a Financial Times magazine a while back had a list of the top 25 or so Universities in the world. As I recall, about 6-8 were American.

    You're joking right?

Ok ok, we don't have all the top rated universities, but we probably have 95% of them

Getting in Canadian universities is relatively easy but getting into the top 3-4 Universities is tough though.

    MBA rankings

    1. U Penn (Wharton)! - US (I should've applied here)
    2. Harvard Business School - US
    3. Columbia University GSB - US
    4. Stanford University GSB - US
    5. University of Chicago GSB - US
    6. Insead - France
    7. MIT: Sloan - US
    8. New York University: Stern - US
    9. London Business School - United Kingdom
    10. Northwestern University: Kellogg - US
    11. Dartmouth College: Tuck - US
    12. Yale School of Management - US
    13. Cornell University: Johnson - US

      (made the undergraduate business program)

What now? Check the other rankings, the US universities top all. Everyone knows the US is the most competitive place to get into college. We kick major ass! Oxford is good in some areas, but usually overrated and it is underfunded also.

And if you're talking about business, of course US universities will be the best!

"We kick major ass". Typical American arrogance. Where does this total belief in american superiority come from? Do me a favour and don't list your nations achievements because any progress the USA makes is on the back of european groundwork. In ALL FIELDS!

I'm British. And I hate our current government... I've decided to admit to jealousy fueling some of my arguments, but only because it will double them.

Firstly, you should read "Two Scavengers in a Truck, Two Beautiful People in a Mercedes"...

I just don't understand how a country which is supposed to be a really big, open-minded, fantastic Western, civilised country still has not legalised homosexual sex in over a fifth of its states.

Then there's the fact that the country is a rather high percent Christian and Christianity just makes me gag...

Then there's the lack of youth empowerment. It's a good thing most kids don't follow the law because most of them would die before they'd be allowed to do anything...

And the country's about two hundred years old. And it has a darker history than most of the ancient countries! How can one of the countries with the darkest history have one of the world's most patriotic people? It's vile.

Political ignorance and international arrogance. No respect for international law whatsoever.

Of course there are exceptions (seems to be a disclaimer I'm obliged to make)...

I don't understand this stupid pissing match between Europe and the US. Countries go up and down on wave of performance.
Europe has had it's time of up and it was long and prosporous and now it's the US time. US gets to enjoy the up, Europe gets to enjoy the history culture and reputation but understand that it's not their time of glory....Pure and Simple.

it's probably the other way around at the moment...the US had it...and is losing it.

look at for instance something as simple as mobile phone usage or penetration.

The US clearly led the world after the second world war, until who knows when. But it seems the US is slipping.

No, this is a slight slip on the up curve. US have not even experienced it's peak yet. No country in the world have the potential that US have, if god's willing we're blessed with some good politicians and diplomats. Vast Vast lands separated from the troubles and headaches of the world by oceans, tons of natural resources, ect. The mobile phone, communication gadjets, ect.....where just a little spike that didn't last long enough.

Europe have many many problems that will hinder it from ever becoming super power again. First, it's divided terribly in many many factions that speak different languanges and that historically are all jeoulous and hating of one another. Second, the land has no resources, so it needs to rely on wordly occupation to survive, and that's not going to happen again after the grand Exodus of the British troops from Africa and Asia. Thirdly, the only hope of a super power formation in Europe was the Soviet Union, and we all saw how easily that was crumbeled by the US without even declaring war. Face it, all Europeans need to follow in Blair and Spain footsteps, or they'll loose big time in this coming century and start being listed as Third world country. I can tell you that from seeing the US act in the past and knowing full well that they hold grudges, it'll become policy of the US to cause France and Germany lots of trouble by being their bottle neck in all their future transactions.
