    The typical career path into biology research involves studying for BSc and PhD (and sometimes MSc inbetween).

    major in biology. takes lots of course work in microbiology and biochemistry to beef up your major.

    Unless you plan on setting up independent research projects, or teaching in a university, a PhD isn't really necessary. An MSc degree will get you a great position in research.
