There's a reasonable explanation to the correlation between global warming and an increased amount of arctic sea ice - regardless of whether or not humans, the sun, both, or neither are causing the planet to warm. Warmer temperature can result in more precipitation, more rain means the surface water is less salty relative to normal ocean water, less salty water freezes at a high temperature than does more salty water. Thus, warmer temperature, can indeed lead to more sea ice. The question is how thick is the new ice. If it's only a millimeter or so thick, then 20 million square km of relatively thin ice is not really the same as 5 million square km of half a kilometer thick sea ice.

Yes, there is a few problems with the reasoning, namely the problem of induction (although I'd argue that never stopped anyone from putting their hand onto a hot stove a second time) and the problem of correlation - which is tied into problem one.

IMO the real problem is the State has co-opted Science (and now pretty much funds most of it). As trust in public 'servants' (/the State) decreases - due to natural ineptitude and promotion of incompetence, Scientists get tared with the same brush. And many 'Scientists' are anything but.

Hate to break in again, but I am feeling defamed. I make a few harmless funnies and others resort to slapping on labels. No evidence suggests that the Earth is cooling that I've ever seen. If the OP has some evidence in this regard, let's see it and discuss it.

 

No one has mentioned the gross error in the OP: It's Antarctic sea ice that's large this year, not the Arctic.
