    The Meaning of life

    Primary meaning of life
    The meaning of life is constantly being occupied by something that aids the individual to ignore that there is no meaning of life.

    Secondary meaning of life
    The meaning of life is seeking the fulfilment of the individual’s species’ ethology, i.e. the individual’s biological behavior, which optimally aids the individual to fulfil the primary meaning of life.

    Tertiary meaning of life
    The meaning of life is studying and seeking a fitting place in the individual’s present society structure plus to incorporate a set of ethical basics, rituals and ceremonies that for the individual itself, for the species in general and for the surroundings in general at best fulfils the secondary meaning of life, that hereby at best fulfil the primary meaning of life.

    Hereby, in principal, any individual can achieve to be a being in harmony with itself and its surroundings.

    I like it! Even if the first is an oxymoron... "the meaning of life is to ignore the fact that there is no meaning to life!"

    But then what does one do, if one, as most of us do, live in a society that's over populated as defined from the ethology of your species?

    Look to the current trends in population growth.
    Look at where population growth is continuing.
    Look at what we are doing that helps this trend.
    We, with our do-gooder medicines and food are exacerbating any attempt to curb population growth.
    Meanwhile, almost all of the modern industrialized world has negative population growth.
    Over populated? Not really happening here.

    It's easy to define life if you realize death isn't a part of it, its the end of it. Life is any growth. Rocks are grown so they live. Consciousness is a trait of life, but isn't necisary unless your a thinker feeler not enviorment.. Life is anything and everything, and death is the lack of those things even rocks. Death is only the lack of life not a thing on its own. Once all things are realized death will not exist. The meaning of life is existence.

    Over population has greater consequences that just not having the land and resources to sustain the number of people we currently have on the planet as a whole. Right now, at our current consumption rates, the growth we have globally is unsustainable. People are starving to death and dying of horrible diseases like Ebola and Cholera and other serious illness because they are packed in too tightly to isolate themselves effectively. Eventually we will hit a point where the dying outnumber the births, but at the current growth rate, that will happen sooner rather than later. When things get too populated in other countries, we will take on the spill over as we already are doing and eventually we'll find ourselves in collapse because of the problems associated with over population. It's not a question of if it will happen without some sort of restrictions or understanding of the problem, but when it will happen. Probably not in our lifetimes, and that's why we largely ignore the issue. But it will happen, and we are not advancing fast enough even in our country to combat the growth. We aren't developing huge vertical hydroponic farms to grow food, we aren't building sustainable buildings that will last 200+ years, we aren't paying enough attention to infrastructure and we are depleting the planet of natural resources at an alarming rate. There are so many reasons why zero population growth is a good thing, and why making people understand that having 19 kids is fucking insane but people just assume there is no problem because they can't visualize it. They just can't contemplate that far forward.

    You are a hunter sculptor. What happens in a herd population when all of it's natural predators are eliminated and we don't manually restrict their growth?

    On topic however;

    The meaning of life is to live by good positive beneficial morality and to lead by that example to all those who you will leave behind. Leave a lasting legacy that benefits humankind as a whole, no matter how small.

    As/re ZPG(zero population growth):

    One little problem:
    It seems that the preaching is to the wrong audience. Negative population growth(NPG) amongst the intellectually blessed, leaves population growth to the others, and the gradual dumbing down of the species.
    In the long run, this may prove more detrimental for the species than unlimited population growth.

    For me, the meaning of (My) life is a continual thirst for knowledge. But, what have I done with that knowledge?
    13 years, 5 universities, multiple degrees, and I am a reclusive sculptor who prefers the company of a good book to a group of people. Now, I am an old man with an iffy memory. The memories of that early quest for knowledge are much like a precious liquid stored in a sieve. (sigh) I did raise 2 sons who are well educated. One is a science teacher, and the other an idealistic lawyer who prefers to represent the poor.

    ...............
    as/re hunting:
    I live on the edge of thousands of acres of government land. And shoot, and eat, some of the deer who wander into my backyard garden.
    I am one of the keystone predators in this little piece of heaven.
    One thing i've noticed is that the deer tend to not eat the foliage of the non-native trees and shrubs. The science teacher, is helping to remove the non-native shrubs.

    Well, the tenants of zero population growth is to keep breeding as intellectuals, one to replace you, one to replace your spouse/partner and then stop. The problem is all the people who've been encouraged by their religions or some crazy hippie idea to breed out of control and then raise said children indoctrinated with the same ideas. That's the audience that needs to be targeted. One could even argue at this point that it should be part of the moral compass under the subsection "do no harm" because over-populating harms not only the environment and the population, but forces parents to focus on the smarter of the children and stunts the growth and fosters resentment in those who do not excel.

    There is nothing wrong with being reclusive, introverted and a reader. You don't sound like you have an iffy memory to me, though. You still seem sharp as a tack and you've recounted many memories and experiences of your past to great effect.

    Sadly, our ideas are outliers and not conducive to the popular ideals of current society even though they are actually the more helpful to society as a whole.
