Why is it people become so complacent and boring as they age? The reason I ask this is because I have lost touch with so many people that I used to be close friends due to their lifestyle changes. Most of my friends are no longer adventuress and have become homebodies. I understand if a person becomes a parent, but few of my friends became parents. Most have told my wife and I that we need to act more our age and settle down. We're 42 and 43, and most of our friends are in the same age brackets. We do a lot of travel and mountaineering. I am training right now for a bicycle tour in Alaska next May. I just don't get why people think once you turn 40 that you have to "settle down."

Many people are xenophobic conformists & they have great difficulty relating to anyone who isn't.

Yet I still go for a morning surf most mornings.....I am able to still dance the arse off any bird either my age or younger, but at the same time, I enjoy a relaxing couple of hours by myself, either listening to Nana Mouskouri, talking science, watching the football or cricket and having a Foster/VB Tooheys, or just or watching a good movie.
    I rarely actually get bored.

I think you made a good point there. It amazes me at how difficult it is for most to understand stuff that is not mainstream. Unless something is "cookie cutter", people cannot seem to grasp it. Just look at the real estate industry. Staging has become huge because people can't picture what a home will look like furnished.

Also, some people are that way as teens & young adults & lifelong while some "get it out of their system" as teens.

IF somehow I could see the house furnished then click my fingers making everything disappear, I'd prefer that but if it's 1 or the other, I prefer an empty house. I probably would never buy any house without seeing it empty.

They day you " settle down" is the day you die on the inside. Tell that to your old settled friends, that they are dead on the inside.
