Now that it is a mature industry, a balance must be struck between the needs of government, fire and rescue workers triangulating the location of individual cellphones, and the needs of consumers to have a reliable appliance that does not waste needed mobile battery capacity because it has been co-opted to the purposes of advertising. This is not a joke, and the solution is simple:

    1) Advertisers and Google partners should only have access to location and demographic data from their applications WHEN THE CHARGER CORD IS PLUGGED INTO AN EXTERNAL POWER SOURCE.
    2) Unless authorized by rescue, fire, police or security agencies, or if it is essential to services such as navigation, such location and demographic data should be restricted to include only the city in which the cellphone subscriber is located.

Cellphones have saved many lives just the way they are, but who knows how many times advertisers have endangered or even killed consumers who would have benefitted from having a more mobile device with the battery capacity the consumer paid for? Obviously, the industry thought that battery capacity would increase by much more than it has, or is likely to in the near future.

Did I mention that I also receive a lot of calls from burglar alarm installation companies whenever my phone is away from my home. I don't want anyone in a position to exploit such data to commercial advantage to have open access to it. Google partners know where they can all go.

This is the point I was trying to get at. Thanks for your help.

One suggestion I received here about voice quality and breakup (and did not help) has been resolved -- by me.

If you are having trouble with this, try forcing your smart cellphone to delete any voicemail apps and revert it to the original factory supplied version. It works just fine now, everywhere, anywhere. Trust me-- you don't need "avatars" or anything else that comes along with that particular app, including unacceptably poor voicemail function.

This may also have been related to the battery life problem, which appears much improved. Perhaps the vendors of that app were using it as an illegal commercial or law enforcement wiretap?

Try http://www.cyanogenmod.org/. Android is Open Source and this community has a mature and stable fork of Android which is beautiful and powerful. Application permissions are a lot more granular than the stock Android.

Persistence pays. My android is working much better now. I can charge it to 100%, disconnect it, travel for three or more hours, and it still has a 97% battery charge. I don't know which app(s) were errant, but one or more of them were draining power like crazy. Keep only the barest essentials for apps, and NO social media of any variety. Your android will work the way a smarter phone should.

You get more cancer-causing radiation from standing in sunlight for one second than from a lifetime of smartphone usage. So perhaps Johnny Cochran was simply foolish enough to walk outside.

All smartphones come bloated with software that you don't want or need and can't delete. This is not particular to Android and it's even more strict with iPhones.
It's just like having a computer to which you don't have the admin account. You are a user.
Your phone is not really yours until you root it.
