More effort should be made to make the leaders of Palestine to stop their own people, the Hamas to name but one, from terrorizing Israel so that some sort of peace can be restored between the two countries. There are other terrorists who are also found in Palestine that should also be done away with which would also show the world the Palestinians are trying to prevent terrorists from provoking Israel by launching missiles, suicide bombings and other forms of terrorists activities. Until that is done there will never be peace but only friction and fighting will continue.

I believe that Israel has the right to protect itself from terrorism and they should use as much force as necessary to diminish the people who are attacking it. Israel has been attacked by 4 countries at one time but has made peace with 3 of them and no terrorism from those countries has taken place recently. Only Palestine remains to come to peace with Israel but the leaders there seem not to want peace because they can't control their own people from terrorizing Israel. Many times a peaceful negotiation has taken place only to be disregarded by the terrorists in Palestine.

I also think that arms dealers are supplying the weapons , like missiles, that are used to attack Israel want only to keep the hostilities at a fever pitch to make money selling weapons to those people in Palestine who keep the fighting ongoing. The terrorists in Palestine use civilians as human shields and many times find places to fire missiles from that are schools, hospitals or other public places where innocent humans are killed to make it seem that Israel is only after civilians when Israel isn't because it only shoots where the missiles are launched from to strike back at the terrorists.

I think israel is secretly a state of the usa, but they never told anyone. Thats why usa gives israel so much aid.

Israel, is just the anglo american empire in middle east. Geopolitical reasons, over religious i would bet. They just used the bible to get there position.

ah yes the typical response of a zionist. its everybodies fault but Israel's. being Israel's protector was never, is not, nor ever will be in the Us interest. more effort should be done prevent the the real aggressors Israel for provoking violence. there can be know peace with Israel until it stops its 60 year reign or terror and war crimes. Israel was founded on terrorism and war crimes and continues to elect terrorists and war criminals to its highest offices. the palestitian people have been waiting for a partner in peace to bad the other side wasn't them erased.

Israel has not once engaged in good faith negoitations. its negioates only to commit more war crimes by expanding its illegal settlements and stealing palestinian territory.

Everyone in the area needs to put more effort into working for peace. But the bottom line is this, Israel likes killing Palestinians and stealing their land and Palestinians like killing Israelis. They have been doing it for 70+ years now. So if and when both sides decide to stop killing each other, then and only then, can there be peace in the area. And the US will continue its unwavering support for Israel no matter what it does, because two critical voting blocks support Israel regardless of what it does or doesn't do. Fundamentalist Christian and Jewish sects will continue to support Israel no matter what, thus the US will continue to support Israel no matter what (e.g. Israeli attack on USS Liberty). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Liberty_incident

What does the average american have to gain by our continued support for Israel and continued wars in the middle east?

Perhaps the end of the world will finally bring peace, yes. Nice thought, a bit messy though, might totes ruin everyone's new year.

In 1946–47, Abdullah said that he had no intention to "resist or impede the partition of Palestine and creation of a Jewish state. Ideally, Abdullah would have liked to annex all of Palestine, but he was prepared to compromise.

He supported the partition, intending that the West Bank area of the British Mandate allocated for the Arab state be annexed to Jordan.
Abdullah had secret meetings with the Jewish Agency (at which the future Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir was among the delegates) that reached an agreement of Jewish non-interference with Jordanian annexation of the West Bank .

This idea was what I think was the best way to go. To bad they wouldn't agree to doing it back then but perhaps they would consider doing it again now.

Both sides like killing each other too much. The killing will continue until both sides decide it is time to end the bloodshed. It's sad but true. The Palestinians need to form a strong system of governance and stop the violence, and Israel needs to help Palestinians form such a government and help Palestinians develop their economy, and it too needs to stop the violence and Israel needs to stop taking Palestinian lands. Unfortunately, it seems both sides are happy with the status quo.

Which idea, annexation with Jordan? Jordan gave up the West Bank rather than having to deal with the Palestinians. That's not going to happen.

The Palestinians have always had bad leadership and have shot themselves in the foot many, many times.

The best that Abbas could do at this point (unfortunately) is to just dissolve his government and make Israel be responsible for everything and let the cards fall where they may.

Israel has prevented, by terrorism, violence, and blockade, any establishment of a functional government among the Palestinians.

This is because a functional Palestinian government would be able to establish a State - the second State of the "two State solution" that Israel has been preventing for two generations - which could draw and enforce borders. Israel is not done expanding yet, and does not want to have its borders fixed. In particular, there are important water sources and fertile land areas not yet solidly Israeli, some even still in the possession of Palestinians.
