Nice shout out for "Lost In Space"... an that coud be it... mayb i read it all wrong an my dream-woman had a crush on me... anyhow... im very impressed with Channel 8 that they got Scientology off Vitinas back... yep... truth has not been good for Scientology.!!!

Years ago i got a leter that offered me a free gold cross if i mailed ther card back wit my prayer request on it... an i did... an a few days later i got that cross along wit a request for a donation of 5 10 20 or 100 dollars... well i checked the box for the 100 dollar donation an ask 'em to pray for me cause i was runnin low on apple butter.!!!

After that... once a mounth i woud receive anuther donation/prayer request card an a free gift... an as usual i checked the 100 dollar donation box... an my last prayer request was about my glass eye... which i explained had fallen out an the dog ate it... so i asked 'em to please send me a new one... preferably one that didnt bark so much.!!!

The next mounth i got anuther card... i checked the 100 dollar donation box... but insted of a prayer request i told 'em that accordin to my records i had sent 'em 11 hundred dollars an i woud like a receipt for tax purposes... i never herd from 'em agan

Kind of like the evolving "unexpected" in Pasture Timmy's topic here. Started out about sex-robots and then dreams and now religious organizations (though there might often be some kind of underlying affiliation between those subjects, anyway).

Purely to get it back on track, I will trivially venture in overused trope fashion (Zzzzzz....) that since robots can be programmed to be whatever we want (i.e., easier to get along with than real people)... Then of course they will not only be popular in this area, but eventually replace the assorted roles of both domestic significant others and sex-industry employees altogether (the perfect children, the perfect spouse, the perfect pets, the perfect friends, the perfect neighbors, the perfect prostitute / gigolo, the perfect bad-boy or bad-girl for cheating with, etc).

But before that happens, most jobs will have been taken over by machines, leaving only that increasingly wealthy 1% with any money. Which then raises the problem of decreasing consumers able to afford those manufactured goods and services. Since the once middle class and poor will have been reduced to a pseudo-apocalyptic existence as hunter-gatherer savages again. ;-)

One solution to the above scenario that has been proposed: Before being rendered totally obsolete and destitute, the average human can rent / buy these smart / skilled machines that work for businesses in general. Also overseeing their maintenance via hiring the services of other specialized machines to inspect them, repair them, upgrade them, etc. Sort of like owning a slave to do the work, which these particular future slave-owners could otherwise be doing themselves if Progress did not make it more and more difficult to do that. Having human grunt labor replaced by machines in Luddite days was one thing, but once the automatons start taking over the mental / skilled / creative labor department, too...

Of course, the other route is that people will continually upgrade themselves to compete with machines, till there's nothing non-artificial left. Posthuman and other post-biotic species doing the self-replicating number on Terra ever afterwards. The nanotech "space-wildlife" slowly hibernating / seeding across interstellar space, with the visiting Black Monolith routine included for any "feuding over water-rights" simian counterparts encountered along the way.

Well, I definitely think it would be a popular innovation no doubt. However, do I think it would be right? Not exactly. Think about it. The whole purpose of sex is the biological purpose of reproduction. Reproduction is a key of life, and this should not obscure our thoughts as a species on what the point of sexual activity truly is. It is pleasurable, yes, but thee is a point to that. The Dopamine, produced during sex giving a "rewarding" feeling, is merely an incentive to do such an action, for the sole purpose of encouraging reproduction. The feeling isn't the objective, just the incentive. We must not obscure the future generations into forgetting that crucial fact. Granted, our population is spiraling out of control, and this may be able to put some sort of rest on the rapid growth of us as a species. However, the point is that we cannot obscure our thinking, as the purpose of sex is reproduction, not enjoyment. Just as the purpose of eating is digestion and absorption of nutrients, not savoring taste. We as a species have evolved to develop keen reaction to these actions, but as an incentive.

Thank you! While I suppose we may eventually get to the stage in which In-vitro fertilization is our main method of reproduction (reminiscent to the Kryptonian way of life in Man of Steel) , the ethical arguments against it would no doubt hold it back a good while, too slow for the advancement of this specific technology.

I thank by that time ethics will be based more on logic that superstition... so any "hold-it-back" period woud be like a blink of an eye to us... an besides... In-vitro fertalization woud soon become outdated an replaced anyway.!!!

I'm not sure if ethical arguments will cease in the near future, as long as we retain our ability to think freely as a species. There will always be conflicting ideas which hinder the development of new technologies, but this freedom of thought is what makes us the sentient beings we are today. In terms of In-vitro fertilization, I'm not sure what technology could exactly replace it, and still keep the concept of retaining the parent DNA intact. If no parental traits are inherited, natural selection would be disrupted. One could also argue that a case such as that could be the final stage of natural selection in humans, with the perfect species being found and replicated many times over.

We might stick wit stoopidstition for many years to come... but i thank it wont be long before its common knowledge that us "sentient beings" are merely biological machines... who will evolve to mechanical machines.!!!

The process will be diferent but selection will still be quite natural... just understood... ie... a designer species as you mentioned.!!!

I suppose so. I'm not sure if we've even put a lot of emphasis on that area of research just yet. Genetic manipulation as a whole is already a grey area in the forefront of science at the moment.

I say 10 years for a decent doll, women might lose some of the power they currently hold over men which would be beneficial to my country at least.

No more broken hearts, just rechargeable batteries that might explode while you're on the job

There is a species of hominids know to have had (consensual & otherwise) sex with animals, rubber dolls made for the purpose, infants, very young females, old females, corpses, any creature with a pulse & two x chromosones.

How ugly could a robot be to discourage such a male?

In some forgotten short story of the past (perhaps written when this guy was a teen or a child), there was a passing mention of an individual who had a dangerous and as yet unconsummated attraction to helicopters. Leave it to Harlan Ellison to make the outrageously real sound fictional...

Man admits having sex with 1,000 cars: "...He says that his most intense sexual experience was 'making love' to the helicopter from 1980s TV hit Airwolf..."

Mechanophilia: The love or sexual attraction to computers, cars, robots or androids, washing machines and other domestic appliances, lawn mowers and other mechanised gardening equipment. Sexual relations between living organisms and machines.

Prolly even perverts have ther standards.!!!

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mechanophilia

    Mechanophilia...
This is treated as a crime in some nations, such as the United Kingdom,[2] with perpetrators being placed on a sex-offenders' register after prosecution.

Whoa... a signature i once used was... "I love my msnTV-2"... glad i didnt live in the UK at the time

the power to keep your children and bleed you dry(for cash) if divorced, is a serious problem, control over emotion is a big one, so many blokes act like their wives now...
