I well remember in Australia in the early 1950s, every school child having to get the Salk and Sabin vaccines....No ifs or buts, it was a requirement, and as we know, the disease Polio is as far as we know, pretty rare.

    http://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/bhcv2/bhcarticles.nsf/pages/Polio_immunisation
The Global Polio Eradication Initiative aims to eliminate all cases of polio around the world. It is a global public health plan, with immunisation as an important part of the program. The entire western Pacific region, including Australia, has been declared polio-free since 2000.

New cases of polio in Australia are rare, but the disease remains a health risk for travellers to some countries of the world. Since 1986, the only new case of polio in Australia was reported in July 2007. This person was a traveller who acquired his infection in Pakistan.

If Australian children and adults are not immunised, polio could again become a problem in this country.
    """"""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""

I would say criminal charges should be brought against Mike Adams and his "Natural News" publications.

We're having a similar problem in the USA. It started with the so-called "Christian Scientists," a wacko religious cult whose most devout members refuse to use modern scientific medicine at all. They insist that all they have to do is pray, and if God finds them to have lived lives of piety and devotion, they will be cured by magical miracles.

But lately there's been a new "anti-vaccination" movement that isn't rooted in religious fairytales. A considerable number of people are refusing to have their children vaccinated. They're convinced that the risks of vaccination far outweigh the benefits.

Of course what they're seeing is a dramatic decrease in measles and other childhood diseases, because everyone else's children were vaccinated! Because of this, the risk of their own children contracting these diseases is low.

This is called herd immunity, a phenomenon observed in livestock. If only a small percentage of the herd are unvaccinated, then the odds that an individual who has the disease will encounter one who is unvaccinated, and thereby infect him/her, are extremely small.

But if a greater number of parents refuse to vaccinate their children, then the odds of one of them encountering one who has a disease will skyrocket.

May the Lord God take the ignorant unto his bosom sooner than the rest of us.

Maybe there's something to it, after all?

In other words, "Get them off of our planet before they do any more harm?"

This is from page 2 of the introduction to Vaccine Nation: America's Changing Relationship with Immunization, by Elena Conis, 2015, U. Chicago Press.

"For the larger debate over vaccination that took place in the early 2000s wasn't just about vaccine risks. At a deeper level it was a debate about the role of children in our society, our health care politics, gender relations, chronic disease risks and more. Moreover, the ongoing debate obscured the fact that in the new millennium, vaccination was widely accepted by the American public. By 2009, America's youngest children were more vaccinated than ever: 90 to 95 percent were protected against over a dozen infections, including diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, polio, measles, rubella, mumps, Haemophilus influenzae b (Hib), hepatitus B and chicken pox. Only a small fraction - one-half of one percent - had received no vaccines at all. Vaccine controversies may have grabbed Americans attention at the start of the twenty-first century, but the broad acceptance of vaccination deserved just as much scrutiny...

The story begins in the 1960s because that's when a new era of vaccination dawned. Government scientists, triumphant over polio and smallpox, considered how the country might deploy new vaccines against what they called the "milder" diseases, including measles, rubella and mumps. While they grappled with these new technologies, federal support for childhood vaccination expanded (especially when it served the political interests of White House occupants). The vaccines themselves - and others that came after - drew attention to their target infections, changing how Americans saw them and thought about the urgency of their prevention. Meanwhile, major New Left social movements, including second-wave feminism and environmentalism, helped cultivate criticism of vaccines and vaccination. And a wildly diverse set of influences - Cold War anxiety, the growing value of children, the emergence of HIV/AIDS, changing fashion trends and immigration worries, to name just a few - helped prop up vaccine acceptance, as the chapters of this book reveal. If the stories herein reveal just one thing, it is that we have never vaccinated for strictly medical reasons. Vaccination was, and is, thoroughly infused with our politics, our social values, and our cultural norms."

I don't think anybody has been for a long time. The US stopped vaccinating the public in the 1970s but were still vaccinating the military.

Smallpox was officially declared globally eradicated in 1980 with the last surviving samples in US and Russian labs.

I was vaccinated 2x and neither took since I don't have that smallpox scar.

Same applied in Australia, although I was vaccinated in 1974 before heading off to Panama, against Small Pox, Typhoid, Yellow Fever, and Cholera.

Dr toad has a point, but don't stop there. Humans are the disease that is infesting this planet. That's possibly why G-d made all those other diseases to get rid of that infestation. And Saints and Odin be praised, those antibiotic resistant buggers certainly do EVOLVE, in just the way he gave Darwin to understand and spread the word, among other things.

If you wish to pray for anything, pray for the swift and certain dispatch of your own species and misbegotten offspring from this tiny planet so that diseases like smallpox can once again thrive in the pristine wilderness where no filthy human being other than afflicted or dying ones has trod for a million years. No amount of pain and especially suffering to that end is too little.

Do you think that sounded deranged enough? I worry it's too mild and the anti- vaccine folks won't get it. They are the disease. G-d loves disease vectors, and that's why he likes to make them suffer. They go to a better place. With more blessed suffering. G-d is consistent and to believe otherwise would be blasphemy. Eyeballs burning out of their unvaccinated sockets with diseased rage yet?

There was an old lady who swallowed a fly.
I don't know why she swallowed the fly,
    I guess she'll die.

There was an old lady who swallowed a spider,
that wiggled and wiggled and tickled inside her.
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly.
I don't know why she swallowed the fly.
    I guess she'll die.

Agent Smith - "I'd like to share a revelation that I've had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species and I realized that you're not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed and the only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You're a plague and we are the cure."

I always thought the line "Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment" was quite ironic. When he says that, you can look out the window behind him and see . . . Australia, where rabbits devastated the ecosystem of an entire continent.

Weasels have done much the same in New Zealand. People call them "ermines" and raise them for the white coats they grow in winter. The kakapo, a flightless parrot and the largest psittacine species on earth, have been devastated by ermines, as well as the dogs, cats and rats that the European colonists brought. As of this writing, there are barely one hundred of the birds still alive.

Canada geese are devastating the ecosystem in the northeastern USA, and hybrids of domestic pigs and wild boars are doing the same to much of the rest of the country.

Some idiot turned a few raccoons loose in Europe and they've become a scourge.

Before that, some idiot turned several dozen house sparrows loose in Central Park in New York City. Within 100 years they've spread throughout the entire Western Hemisphere, from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego, out-competing and marginalizing native bird species everywhere they go.

Domestic cats, brought by the European colonists, kill more than ONE BILLION birds in the USA every year.
