Chinese engineers have unveiled a prototype elevated bus designed to rise above the traffic jams below it by straddling road lanes.
Each of the gargantuan buses is projected to be able to carry approximately 1,200 passengers.
Similar to trams, the buses would run on a set of fixed rails on the road.
Travelling at speeds of up to 60mph, vehicles up to a height of two metres will be able to drive underneath the bus even when it is stationary.
Called the Transit Explore Bus (TEB), the prototype is designed to take on many of the same functions as a subway train but with a fifth of the cost.

Probably of more import than title's "floating bus" for traffic reduction is the "tunnel bus" set for real highway trials this August:

I think it is guided by tracks and soon will need no driver.* It is 54 meters long, 4.5 to 4.7 meters high and 7.8 meters wide. It can hold 1,200 to 1,400 passengers, many times more than a traditional bus. Thus more like a short train, than a bus. More here: http://usa.chinadaily.com.cn/china/2016-05/27/content_25495150.htm

    * Collision avoidance radar would be faster in breaking than a human with reacton time limits and need lower deacceleration forces when idiots try to cut infront.

Remember the crowd-control garbage trucks in Soylent Green? I had an idea years ago for a bus with a forklift in front to pick up cars stopped in the bus lane and crush them.
