hey old friends! Haven't been here for a long time. Hope all has been well! At any rate. I want to migrate away from windows. I am currently running windows 10 on my lenovo laptop PC. I am wondering what other Operating system(s) are viable. Ideally I would like to be able to have compatibility with windows applications. I play some video games, but not terribly often. I would also like to be able to download and watch movies and download and listen to music and sync my Ipod. I will likely dual boot, so that when I need to use windows for something, I will be able to. Any thoughts or opinions that may be of help?
Still hard to pass by Linux, but you'll then be opening a discussion on which particular distro best suits your purpose.

Windows 7 is the best for me, but otherwise, you may use also a Linux. Others claimed that Linux is faster. I think,if you are working more on software then Linux is advisable.
Wine is a windows emulator for Linux and it can run surprisingly many windows application on Linux. I have Linux Mint + Wine on a laptop, too. Runs fine for me. Wine homepage: https://www.winehq.org/
Ubuntu was easy, Linux Mint required a little effort because of an issue with the age of the computer on which I was installing it. Both have a GUI, so they aren't hard to use. If you dig into the OS, however, it can become challenging
