the reason why some people are skeptical is because a typical smartphone (which is used for mundane and frivolous activities) in your pocket is 150 million times more powerful than the computer that took the apollo 11 to the moon.

Yes, we have progressed near 50 years since Apollo 11.
That's still no excuse for any lame brain to accept the nonsense Fat Freddy is pushing.

Can your smartphone control a spacecraft that's millions of miles away from your smartphone, which is unable to even communicate with other cellphones without the help of a satellite in space.

Its amazing that the satellites which control the GPS in you smartphone have to make daily corrections to account for drift.
You can do this with your smartphone?

But of course you already admitted that smartphones are good for only the most mundane communication.

I visited the NORAD command post in Colorado Springs, and I can assure you, their computers are much smarter than your smartphone.

And that computer executed orders program into it by programmers running much bigger and better computers. It wasn't a child genius, it didn't need to be, it was just a step or two above a dumb terminal. Seriously, don't you guys think these things through? Or is it enough to just the nonsense out there and hope hope gullible people will swell your numbers?

An interesting remark and I'm sure very true.

I suspect it is the same psychology as with those people who refuse to accept that the Egyptians built the pyramids, and invoke little green men to do it instead. Or the people that think Shakespeare could not have written Shakespeare's plays and that Francis Bacon or the Earl of Oxford wrote them instead. Basically underestimating what people are capable of without various advantages that we tend to take for granted.

Nah, the big IBMs were state of the art. The 501 alarm showed just how feeble they were, unable to cope with the unexpected.

Popularization of history usually goes that way.

I was thinking of RAdm. Grace Hopper during most of those scenes.

This didn't even try. There was one and exactly one incident that dealt with racism: when the cop said "Are you being disrespectful?"
It's not like history has been popularized to the extent that we think racism wasn't rampant in SE States in the 60s.

Seriously? You didn't notice the restroom issue, or the "whites only" coffee pot, or the activist brother or any of the other things that were there in the movie?

Well, those were pretty passive. You can't be afeared for your safety by a coffee pot.
