    Hey Folks:
I just came in on the tale end of this debate, and I must say parts of it are quite amuseing. The universe did not happen by chance and all this chaos we see in it is really sublime order at it's best.
As far as christianity ruling the world and keeping us in the dark ages, heres my opinion. The world which they did rule at that time was kept in the dark ages. Printing presses were forbidden because they threatened the control the church had on the dissemination of knowledge, and the source of knowledge.New and radical scientific theories were a way of getting yourself burned at the stake.Through their spred of paranoia and mis-information massive witch hunts were commonplace through out christiandom. May be we even would be at the interstellar traveling mode right now if not for the catholics and there Dogmatic ways.
The damn christians formed a religion about a man, intead of what he was teaching.Mis interpreted alot of what he said, and managed to destroy much scientific knowledge found by them in the new world.Anything they came across that did not fit their paradym, they desroyed. Where would we be today, is alot better off without the crap they set into motion in Gods name. By the way God does exist, but not to fit into anyones particular view.
And there is certainly no place called HELL. either.

You mean like the principles of peace, love, and understanding? Or forgiveness?

It wasn't just the Christians who went crazy with the intellectual suppression, nor in later years was it just religious zealots. Every authority system has it's established paradigms about the way we see the world around us. The Democrats have theirs, the Republicans have theirs, the Right-Wing Fundamentalists have theirs, the management at the local business has theirs. Any threat to that paradigm is going to be oppressed. Science departments at major universities scoff at anyone who offers or evens attempts to prove an alternative explanation to accepted "facts", and outright silence any new theories on subjects considered "silly" (a nod to UFO enthusiasts here).

We can't blame the Christians for holding society back. The real villains here are arrogance, pride, ignorance, and the lust for power. These are qualities you will find in any society.

    Paul/Machiaventa,

You came in on the tail end of what debate? Yours is the first message in this thread. Did you intend to post this in another thread? If so, go to that thread and click on "Post Reply", then write (or copy and paste) your message there.

What I actually did was copy and past this reply from the astronomy BB. I just thought is was also pertinet to this Bb topic also.I am quite aware of how to post on this message board. By they way what is your opinion on this particular subject, all you seemed to wish to do was state your awareness of how posting here seems to work. I am sure that most people here ar aware of that. Thanks anyway.

    Paul,

Yes, that was pretty much all I wished to do. I just thought perhaps you needed help in posting, since you were obviously referring to a debate that hadn't occured here in the Religious Debate forum. Now that I am aware of your expertise in posting on message boards, I will forbear offering any further advice in this area.

Actually I am quite capable of posting my opinion when the urge strikes, as I'm sure are most people, but thanks for asking anyway.
