I dont know what to believe sometimes so basically I believe very little.

I read that the priest who was the first to consider the big bang proposition was very taken with the cosmic egg idea. I am yet to read up on this fully but how much better to start a thread somewhat uninformed.
So the suggestion was or is that the cosmic egg would have satisfied his presumed desire for a point of creation and possibly guided his hypothesis.

Considering what comes out from eggs it's a reasonable visual

I wouldn't take it any further

    I dont plan to.
It was an invitation for mainstream and cranks to have a chat prompted by an interesting chat I listened to at the pub a while back.

Leaving George out of it for a moment the cosmic egg concept is rather interesting in the number of civilizations (peoples) who embraced the idea.

The following is headings from wiki indicating various mythologies where the concept appeared.

    Vedic mythology

    Greek mythology

    Egyptian mythology

    Phoenician mythology

    Chinese mythology

    Norse mythology

    Finnish mythology

    Polynesian mythology

    Sorry about the bold.

Wiki even mentioned that the idea was indeed popular for a period with the catholic church.

    From the wiki page...

The concept was resurrected by modern science in the 1930s and explored by theoreticians during the following two decades. The idea comes from a perceived need to reconcile Edwin Hubble's observation of an expanding universe (which was also predicted from Einstein's equations of general relativity by Alexander Friedmann) with the notion that the universe must be eternally old. Current cosmological models maintain that 13.8 billion years ago, the entire mass of the universe was compressed into a gravitational singularity, the so-called cosmic egg, from which it expanded to its current state (following the Big Bang).

Georges Lemaitre proposed in 1927 that the cosmos originated from what he called the primeval atom.

Thanks a great man even though he was a christian☺
The idea for some, not George, was the egg was cut in half one becoming the heavens and one the world.

And everyone should read the link to George Lemaitre posted by Sama as the story is most interesting.

Again from wiki a small section most interesting in case you dont follow the link...which you really should.

Lemaître was also an early adopter of computers for cosmological calculations. He introduced the first computer to his university (a Burroughs E101) in 1958 and was one of the inventors of the Fast Fourier transform algorithm.[27]

In 1933, Lemaître found an important inhomogeneous solution of Einstein's field equations describing a spherical dust cloud, the Lemaître–Tolman metric.

In 1931, Lemaitre was the first scientist to propose the expansion of the universe was actually accelerating which was confirmed observationally in the 1990s through observations of very distant Type IA supernova with the Hubble Space Telescope.[28]

I find it interesting that the cosmic egg cosmology can be found in the various cosmologies above.

I enjoy studying the various cosmologies through out history.

And that humans have had interest in cosmology.

Even the Aboriginals have their cosmology and they obviously the oldest group of humans.
