In light of the FBI's having examined whether Trump is a Russian asset, do you think he is?

There is a tipping point where lowlifes like your President can take advantage of the system .It is important to be this side of that tipping point . If that means trying harder to understand and persuade his actual and potential supporters pov then it is worth it.

I am sure that is the approach favoured by most political activists who are actually going to give their time to (attempting to) ensuring that Trump and as many of his political allies as possible do not serve a second term.

I doubt they will have to resort to dissembling or coddling although compromising is not necessarily a devious form of negotiation.

That tipping point was crossed decades ago.
By understanding them one would come to realize that attempting to "persuade" them has failed for an entire generation, will never work, and is a waste of time.
As with drug addicts and the like, they have to make the move, reach out. No one can do it for them.
The Dems have been dissembling and coddling and appeasing and compromising with this US faction as their standard, first line approach for forty years or more. The consequences surround us.
I fear you may be right. That's how W was re-elected, for example - and we see the call for Biden (this round's Kerry) already.

Well, you and I must agree to disagree in that regard.

About persuading the Trump voter to come up for air and a bath:
If anyone's curious: Daniel Dale, journalist (Toronto Star), livetweets a lot of Trump's speeches - including the latest, at CPAC: https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1101879973068136448.html
    and said this:
    And another weigh-in: http://vixenstrangelymakesuncommonsense.blogspot.com/2019/03/what-hell-are-you-doing.html

Trump spoke for two hours, and got a standing ovation.
    It's not getting better.

Cohen certainly came off as a disloyal lying criminal sleezball during his "testimony".
When officers of the court willingly and consistently break the letter and spirit of the law, the law becomes a meaningless hollow shell. and a shell-game tool of the unethical and disreputable.
People like Cohen do our polity potentially irreparable harm.

Just as he did during his employment with Trump. That's what he has been sentenced to prison for, yep.
Confused. Who are the officers of the court, in this matter?
You mean the other lying criminal sleazeballs in the Trump organization?
Or did you mean the guys like Jim Jordan, whom Cohen rightly identified as a fellow sleazeball doing what Cohen was doing in defense of Trump?

Attorneys/lawyers are "officers of the court".

When they are in the court.

Which of the lawyers in that hearing room are you talking about?

Jim Jordan, for example, has a JD and official hearing responsibilities, is a nasty little guy whose professional failures as a member of the House Oversight Committee are a major reason the recent hearing ever had to be held, and whose political behavior throughout his career was a significant factor in the installation of a corrupt and compromised President with close ties to the Russian mob.

Filing the fraudulent personal tax return is all on Cohen. The devil didn't make him do it.

Something that's been puzzling me. I did not hear the part where he produced a cancelled check. Did he explain how he came to have DJT's cancelled check? My cancelled checks come to me not to the person I wrote them to.

What does that link have to do with the discussion? Another example of a group whose members' "status as members of humanity is, frankly and AFAIC, just a technicality"? - if I am not putting(your own) words in your mouth.

Directly, nothing. Indirectly, it explains the philosophical foundation from which grew my subsequent unmitigated disdain for Trumpkins.

You seem to think I'm among the hyperbolic crowd. I'm not; I've been unequivocal about that; however, you remain incredulous that my sentiments are genuine. Frankly, at this point, really by the time of my post to which you referred, over telling you so ennui has overcome me.

keep in mind that Trump employed him for over 10 years to be that sleazy slime ball.

Yep. And when our president does the same - and then uses the mechanisms of government to protect himself from justice - the damage is even worse.

Donald Trump doesn't do his own taxes or handle his own checking accounts - he hasn't personally recorded a paid check or balanced a checkbook in decades. He tells his people what to do, and they handle the paperwork.

Cohen was convicted for cheating on his own personal taxes. DJT had nothing to do with what Cohen did on his own personal taxes.

I thought all the excitement was because Cohen produced a cancelled check drawn on DJT's personal account an signed by DJT where the other reimbursements were paid by different accounts. My question is how does Cohen have the cancelled check? Normally cancelled checks would go to someone in the CFO's office most probably the controller of the company so how does Cohen have the cancelled check?

And for campaign finance violations and for lying to Congress - including one felony where he lied "to be consistent with Individual-1’s political messaging and to be loyal to Individual-1." Individual 1 is, of course, Trump.
Because Cohen did a lot of Trump's dirty work so Trump could keep his hands clean.

Because that was part of his job.
To repeat: Trump has not handled a checking account, himself, for decades if ever.
And, also, as part of a plea deal, in which the government agreed to forego prosecution for various other charges related to his work for Trump

in return for more detailed and accurate information about what that work involved.
