    Both.

All reports guarantee that at least one moderator will look into the matter, however. A report lets us know that at least one non-moderator member is concerned about a post or some behaviour in a thread. In practice, that sometimes means that moderators sometimes take action on matters that they might otherwise choose not to act if they were making a decision based merely on their own judgment of the circumstances. Personally, I try not to over-moderate. While certain behaviour might upset me if I was the target, if it does not upset the people involved (as evidenced by an absence of reports, for example, or other indicators), then I might not jump in to moderate the discussion. On the other hand, there are plenty of instances where I will moderate obviously problematic posting before the inevitable reports start rolling in.

Got shown this, James. Oddly enough, it was posted by a young lady in Australia.

"An old creep came to the shop where I work. He was literally raping me with thr eyes.
I work as a cashier in a shop and being polite is part of my job, but it is really scary that disturbed creeps would take a good morning or thank you like an invitation to stalk you.

Today this old creep possibility 60 years old but probably even older just gave me that frenzy creepy stare after I said Hi. He could be my grand dad, I'm 19 girl for god's sake.

He seem the kind of guy that will start an unsolicited stalking to then kill you, bury your corpe to go back to it later and f*** it when already decomposing.

I've already talked to my manager I wont do closing ours alone. From now I will be from cold to unfriendly if that is what you get in response to simple being polite.

f*** christ he was making snuff movies in his mind.

I still cannot cope with that."

Like you seemed to point out, there is no telling how someones actions can affect other people!

I'm sure said creep got home and said something like "She was young, pretty and gladly walked me to the appropriate aisle. She appreciated it; she was smiling!"
