Christianity is gradually dying out, congregations are falling to the point that lots of churches are becoming unused, the upkeep of them is so expensive and most don't have the funds to carry on, and another church is closed down.

The christian church is generally used by a Christian three times in their life, baptism, wedding and funeral, and 90% of Christians fall into this catergory.

The remaining 10% that go to church regularly consists mainly of oldies , and it's usually the old folk who use church to get to know about god. The reason behind this is because their time is nearly up and believe they should get friendly with him upstairs. Cos if he is there - they will be meeting him pretty soon.

Look at USA, I believe it started out as a Christian country, now it's a "One God whoever he is" Secular country. The secular world has suffocated Christianity more than any other faith.

Islam on the other hand is stronger and more united than Christianity, and it will not be influenced by secularism in the same way as Christianity has. Christianity is dying, Islam is thriving.

Idiots like Dubya don't help. The US needs an atheist president or at least one who upholds the constitution in that area to quicken the slow death of Christianity in the US.

Education is the key to stop Islam from spreading. Poor uneducated people are much more likely to believe in superstition. Total separation between religion and state should also be the only way governments operate.

Spiritual death. Adam and Eve did not die until the end of their lives. The body dies anyway. The soul dies because of sin. The physical is an indication of the spiritual. You will end up in hell eventually if you are not freed from sin.

I guess I mean it in a Platonic form and type sort of way - that the only way we can understand the metaphysical is by extending what we know about the physical. I.e grave=hell, etc...

Hell and death are basically the same thing, although one is specified for physical and the other spiritual, we don't really know the nature of either. According to Revelation both hell and death end up in the 'pool of fire', which could be anything. This is called the 'second death' in post-apocalyptic language. The criteria for judgement between 'life' and 'death' is sin. It might mean death of the soul, but since the soul is immortal, the only semi-logical wording we can use is 'eternal death'.

 

In fact, you've got it backwards. The founding fathers (primarily deists) of the United States attempted to separate religion (i.e. Christianity) from the state. And then idiots like Eisenhower and Junior Bush attempt to turn the United States into a distinctly Xian nation.

It's true that more Americans are disaffiliating themselves with Xianity, but more than three quarters of Americans identify themselves as Xian, so I would hardly call Xianity "suffocated" at this time.

I wonder how many of the "three quarters of America" are true Christians in every sense of the word. Not as many as you would think.

They are Christians if they identify themselves as such. I see what you mean though. Even though they may identify themselves as Christians, secular forces may rule over the majority of them.

Hopefully that is also the impression of more than half the population. Erm... let me change that. More than 50% of the population in more than 25 states.
