    Conversation:
I approach the supermarket manager who is standing outside the main entrance to this store wearing a cloth face mask. Shoppers are passing him with in 1 meter.
He has no PPE gear on. NO mask.
I ask him when he is going to take this COVID problem seriously and he states that he is...
I ask him if he doesn't mind if I take my mask off and continue to chat with him...
He says that it is fine with him....

The point was that if he isn't prepared to protect me from his micro droplets then why the hell should I?

What was the lead up to my conversation with the manager..?

My daughter ( a serious Asthmatic) works for the same chain, a couple of suburbs away and endured a shut down due to another shift gaining 2 confirmed COVID cases about 7 days ago. A cleaner and a shelf stocker.
They brought in Government cleaners and the store was closed to the public for only about 4 hours.
No media, hush hush, and still no PPE for supermarket workers.

Chronically underestimating the nature of the threat...is costing many lives at the moment and will cost many many more in the near future..

    =============
It is worth noting in the stats available from worldometer that the recovery rate has slowed to slightly under 50% of CC to close to only 20%

Often, true incompetence does not reveal itself until there is a crisis.
And popularity. By prioritizing reopening churches, Trump appeals to the far-right religious base.

Your mask protects you from his droplets, though.

Trump gave a good briefing just now. I don’t normally watch this much news but felt like I needed to catch up today. I just wish he’d shy away from medical talk.

    No it doesn't very much...
My home made cloth mask is about protecting others from my sprayed droplets and has little benefit in protecting me from those who are not wearing a mask.
If I was wearing a high grade medical mask I may gain some protection but they are desperately needed by the medical services people.
If the manager was wearing a mask he would be protecting all that passed him from his expectorant. If manager isn't wearing a mask and was contagious he would be very likely infecting many people by just talking to them and standing there in the door way of his store.

The mask is about suppressing the stuff that comes out of the wearers mouth and nose so that it isn't sprayed on everything around you. (Just breathing sprays micro droplets)
Just talking alone can cause expectorant to spread some distance. The mask inhibits this.
The manager knowing what he knows is negligent in his protection of staff and customers.
Seriously underestimating his situation and that of his staff and customers.

Not walking up to him to brow beat him would provide even more protection.

well, I had to walk past him so I may as well... because if he is infected I am also. Might as well make a point before I end up on a ventilator...
    What's a hall monitor?
The school I went to didn't have a hall...

and explain the context and relevance please...

I was just watch a video blog on an art channel of an artist in Singapore who was riding his bike to a local community center where they were giving out free face masks. In two days the government is going to enact a stricter "lockdown".

At the moment, people were everywhere, stores, malls, etc. Good luck Singapore.

A hall monitor is a student whose job is is to make sure other students aren't sneaking out of class and roaming the halls.

You should have smashed his face in.
In fact anyone without a mask...smash their face in.

I am joking QQ You need to chill man, the way you are wringing your hands you will get severe dermatitis. And next time you see that manager why don't you appologise after all masks are not compulsory.

I can not understand why masks are not compulsory and gloves.

Prediction...birth rates will see a sudden spike in next nine months or so...maybe masks could head that off???

Where you live has a lot of impact on how the situation is being dealt with. Here in PA we have been shut down since March 13 but the numbers are still going up.
I went to the local grocery today. They have really been proactive in halting transmission and helping customers. The manager posts on facebook when the deliveries come and what has been shipped. They provide wipes, gloves, and masks if you want them as well as keeping some items in reserve for seniors and medical workers.
On the other hand some were complaining that people are getting take out and sitting at the picnic tables to eat.
Some how we will manage to survive this.
    Keep your distance.

There are reports that a Malayan Tiger, in the Bronx Zoo is infected. proving zoonotic transmission is possible and most likely occurring. ( src: WSJ )
If this is indeed the case then this indicates that the virus is mutating and therefore the future is really unknown at the moment.
Some people know how bad this news potentially is and some do not... ( If confirmed by other than WSJ)

This video of NZ prime minister's 23 of March lock down speech may be of interest..
    She is totally brilliant IMO...

And even though there is strong compliance they are still seeing around 90 news cases a day. But they have only had 1 fatality. Possibly the new case number is due to better testing regime..we can only hope so...

Certainly it will produce the same watering of the eyes but there is nothing quiet as satisfying as hearing the bones in the nose crunch as they shatter.

Anyways I thank you for your updates.
You look after yourself and perhaps busy yourself with lobbying for masks.
