Bluster could also be defined as acting vociferously.

No, trolling is you repeatedly pretending that the Confederate flag is equally or more offensive than objectively graphic material. If you don't like people taking your arguments at face value, maybe you shouldn't be making such dumb arguments.

No, the argument basically is simply that the Confederate flag is an inherently very evil symbol, in line with the Swastika.

I am too young to be wise.
It was cheap temporary accommodation..it is a long story.. where I live now is safe no need for guns.
You are set in your ways in a very conservative way and you views on freedom are presumably things you were taught by folk who think once you establish a principle it must exist forever. Why can't we change to be better, why do we need to tolerate racists, KKK and delusional war mongers over folk who they hurt and oppressed and to this day regard as inferior etc.
It's like this outdated notion that government is inefficient and is best left out of health care..that is yesterday's rubbish...

I do understand your point but it is just stuff you have learned and because of that you still believe it is correct..it's not..just look at the insane position you have to take to chant what you learnt at college..sure you are stating what you have learnt but look at the unhappy result your approach produces. No doubt you will miss my point..it's like religion..one is indoctrinated and finds to be always defending nonsense rather than actually thinking about the reality before one.

    Have a nice day.

Maybe. So you deny that you were trolling? Do you? Do you think you are so clever even dumb folk like me can't see through your nonsense.
Of course you do that's why you lose. Your high morality on freedom has you defending thugs ...how does that make sense..rather dumb ..more so because you don't get it. I bet you took philosophy..you did right?
You think because you parrot what you learnt in college does not pass for dumb... all your views are just stuff you learnt that leaves you defending the Conferderate flag because of some lofty notion re freedom..move on learn what to accept and what needs review.

But you have no right to be offended as it's symbolic you see...if a tree falls in the forest does it make a sound if there are no philosophers to hear it..well just a simple thing like that has them pondering for days don't you know...you see there is this issue of freedom, a notion a taught principle that rules over common sense and common decency that treats compassion as irrelevant...clear case of indoctrination that has destroyed ability to think past what has been taught.

Are you suggesting that instead of homes, many criminals rob places that have lots of police and security already nearby? Banish the thought!

I do not think it to be offensive per see..I think the main concerns regarding this flag and other symbols is that they have proven that they are able to reinforce ideas and justifications in immature and mentally challenged individuals that we as a global collective have paid the supreme sacrifice in attempting to get rid of.
    • Slavery
    • White supremacy
    • Racism
    • Totalitarianism
    • Fascism
    • Protesting with violence ( Civil war)
    • Even sexism and misogyny - domestic violence etc...
It is the fear that someone will align himself with the flag and for example, pick up a legal weapon and commit a mass shooting as an expression of his flag inspired divine right to steal other peoples rights so as to prop up his own.

Of course Voici-ferous will not read this post as he only reads posts that he is e-notified according to his own vanity. He has no interest in genuine discussion as this would entail reading all posts and not just those that may threaten his ego and remembering his own points to avoid his constant contradictions and hypocrisy.

To be honest it does not really worry me, I just don't let things upset me and convert even horrible things to a positive... I do enjoy a chat with Mr V as he reminds me of Jan just so much...I find it therapeutic as it takes my mind off my leg issues and I don't have to think too hard ..it's fun...

The flag is probably a good thing as it helps to identify the nutters and those who think war is somehow Nobel...all good. Like you really need the KKK to dress up so you can spot them in a croud...what a bunch of digbats playing dress up like that.
    Alex

I hope you are going ok I think of you whenever I hear the news re the virus...stay safe.

    It is, in the US.

    It is also threatening.

There's no real argument otherwise - the people waving it are more often than not intending to offend: they are demonstrating that they - their team, tribe, etc - can offend without consequences. Therein lies the threat.

The flag demonstrates, as well as represents and symbolizes, white racial supremacy. That is inherently offensive, and derivatively threatening.

Without getting too much into where flags came from or why we still have flagpoles, why is it important that a country has one official flag, or in the US each state also has an approved flag, like not a bunch of flags, just the one is accepted.

Why aren't variations or adaptations generally accepted as well, what's important about having just one?

It's that I feel the importance is connected to the debate over the Confederate flag, somehow.
    Just sayin'

If it's not meant to be threatening or offensive, surely them nice southern folk won't mind if a rainbow-coloured Confederate flag gets flown at state legislatures and courts to celebrate Gay Pride Day?

I think what they're interested in celebrating is more like:
"... a land of Cavaliers and Cotton Fields called the Old South... Here in this pretty world Gallantry took its last bow... Here was the last ever to be seen of Knights and their Ladies Fair, of Master and of Slave... Look for it only in books, for it is no more than a dream remembered. A Civilization gone with the wind..."

This certainly casts the whole debate in a completely new light for me, I think we could all use a little more serfdom in our lives. Thanks for the quote, m'lord.

There is a radio show featuring celebrities reading essays and short fiction written by other authors, and I forget its title. Several years ago I remember listening to a particularly uncomfortably hilarious bit from an African-American queer talking about being at a gas station in the Deep South when an El Camino bearing a Confederate battle flag sticker prominently visible on the window pulled up to the next pump. Not knowing what to do in the awkward moment as the young, cute-ish good ol' boy looked him up and down, our queero made a snap decision to charge, and greeted the white supremacist as a friend. This, of course, confused the white boy with the El Camino, who was suddenly on the defensive against queerness instead of blackness. Our symbol, the black queer told him. It's okay, you're in friendly company. How are you? And it worked in the moment; our man got his gas and went along his way without trouble, and nobody is really sure how long before the youngish white supremacist was able to reassure himself the Battle Flag wan't really a secret gay pride symbol, and that he'd just been played by a dark-skinned queer he'd hoped to tough around.

When I was young and introduced, at school, to the national flag, I recall once deliberately watching it wave in the breeze, on one level like I was trying to look inspired (kids, huh?). After a while I still had nothing.

The whole idea that it somehow was a sign or a symbol of my nationality seemed, ridiculous at the time.
So I shelved that one in the "adults, huh?" section.

Well I find whenever I'm travelling in the US, it gets kinda difficult sometimes to remember which country I'm in, so having the national flags around is really helpful to be honest. It's too bad they don't do the same with state and municipal flags too, maybe have one planted every 30 feet or so.
