    yes,
    of course
it had/has to do with how meaning and pronunciation change
if, indeed thig uh ma jig====thiguhmajig (which now refers to an object whose name is unknown or has been forgotten)
    actually derived from Lewis Carol's
"Thing-um-a-jig!" (referring to a man whose name was unknown/forgotten)
    ?

    From some carol...
Of all the trees that are in the wood,
    The holly bears the crown
    Your turn.

So, it wasn't the Romans, it was a tree?

The carol is "The Holly and the Ivy".

You know, for years I always sung ''of all the trees in the ''green'' wood. It's only now I find it's just wood. I like green wood better though.
