Actually no.... I plead guilty to perhaps being naive but I take
what this near death experiencer was shown about the future quite seriously.

Hopefully by the third or fourth page of this discussion you will know that the title that I gave this thread was actually quite serious......
but there is a lot of background information that needs to be covered first.

Further research on this important angle to the whole topic would be to take a look at either the Ithaca Hour and / or Calgary Dollars.

For the record.... here in Canada if you or I were to earn ten percent of our yearly income in Calgary Dollars.... (let's say we accepted ten thousand Calgary Dollars for a service we might have performed, we would owe the income tax on ten thousand Canadian dollars). An alternative currency note is legal if done in certain ways..... one of which is to link it to Canadian or USA dollars so that they can be taxed.

Thank you for deleting a comment that may not have been up to your usual standard..... at least that is my best guess as to why you would delete your comment. This latest post may somewhat grab your attention?

There was nothing to like. The reply box wasn't working.
I don't see the connection between a near-death experience and not giving a shit about oceans.

I personally do worry about our oceans......
but one near death experiencer ended up with a positive view of what humanity would accomplish
related to oceans and rain forests and deserts and many other phenomena during his NDE.

    https://www.near-death.com/experiences/exceptional/mellen-thomas-benedict.html#a09

I guess I worry more about our oceans than perhaps eighty or ninety percent of the population.

    Mod Note

Dennis, I notice you tend to cross post quite a bit (linking to your posts in other threads when you post) - this is often off topic and makes little sense.

    Please stop doing this.

You also seem to veer wildly off topic, and it results in a jumble of words that have no bearing on the discussion at hand. Please stop doing that.

This world always had tons of problems even before today but I think that today it has even more. Some of the problems are financial, others are economical, some are environmental problems but there are also many social problems.

This world really feels very scary and unforgiving sometimes and I think this is the reason why so many poor young men and women are taking their own lives. It's because they are very poor and helpless and they feel like their situation in life is hopeless and if you ever find yourself in such a situation in life where you feel that everything is truly hopeless for you then you obviously will resort to suicide to relieve yourself of the constant pain, the constant worrying and the constant suffering which can be really unbearable.

what effect would the salt piles have ?
how would you pump the water out into the desert ?
large canals with solar pumps ?

carbon capture is good, but emission reduction is critical

as noted the sand would need some type of nutrient added

a far better option would be to build kilometers of seaweed farms
these could breed shrimp also & not require de-salination AND provide protein & critical nutrients found in sea weed.
    also mussel farms

middle eastern people have a cultural phobia towards selfish
    also many indians do
that is hundreds of millions of people who are scared of sea food & wont eat it.
    in key locations

you do not want people who hate the animal/plant growing it for food

middle eastern countrys could build massive shrimp farms and sea weed farms in low laying sea inlet areas like salt farms.

cultural (xenophobia)issues between middle eastern Indian and Asian people would need to be addressed

Well there you go, global warming is nothing to worry about. Living in a fantasy sure is comforting, isn't it?

    technically
the sun having a solar flare CME or extreme solar wind event partially mixed with lower grade CME and or change in magnetic field at the same time of a solar minimum with a hole etc
    yadda yadda yadda

    short story version
everything that happens to the earth can also be caused by non earth things
additionally a object from a different galaxy can crash into earth and wipe it out

look at the moon and some of the other moons in the system

    we know it happens

there was a theory floated some decades back about collective leap evolution cycles
where an idea is conceived by many different people all at the same time around the world

such a theory hands a lot of hidden power to institutionalized religion and a sense of lack of democratic power of the individual
so it makes money & power regardless of it having any real scientific discovery & prooving(i prefer prooving to proofing for its sound & functional action) to it
    people WANT to believe.

    so unified religion
    single gods
single person in charge of everyone else who owns all the money and owns all the virgins etc etc
been there done that for the last few thousand years

positive visualization, the secret etc etc .... self help scams
personal development 12 step franchised cash making social engineering ... etc etc ...

    some thing are good
    some things are bad
    some things can be both

YOU are the unified object defining your own right to an opinion as the observer
that too is a state of human evolutional process

getting everyone to agree to the same thing/god/person/ideology is not the answer(that's also not democracy but lets not get too technical)
change is the answer & the change has to happen because very nasty change(climate change) is going to happen

    to the reader
your panic is indeed YOUR panic
    thats YOURS not mine

I believe that the very natural progression of scary events surrounding climate change will
cause humanity to unite somewhat but......
Dr. Bjorn Lomborg postulated that it would take more than a century for any variation on a Carbon Tax to
begin to address the threat of rising ocean levels.....
so deliberately turning deserts green would at least begin to divert serious amounts of ocean out of the ocean
to a place inland where it would not be threatening a city like New Orleans, New Jersey or Miami or to flood the entire Maldive Islands.

One serious issue that I believe will soon be addressed is the way that nations create their own money....
this is one important part of the larger picture.

The situation here in Canada is much more simple due to the numbers being so much smaller than in the USA.

Have you listened to the theory on putting carbon back into the soil?

    i doubt that
because millions will be dying & the elite with power & money will be scrambling to build their walls and gather their private armys
keeping in mind it is those very same people who have been in control & failed to act.
so what ever game plan they have will be in full swing at that stage.

many of them are probably hoping for a few billion to die off

    remember 2 things
a sizeable proportion of the worlds population think the world is over populated
poor middle class upper class & elite
a sizeable proportion of the worlds population believe in survival of the fittest
poor middle class upper class & elite

they just dont want to be part of the mass die off

The statistics on Derivatives begins to help us to understand that there is something of a myth that we cannot afford to do what really needs to be done......
to finance positively altering the world economy.....
such as deliberately turn deserts green or put carbon back into the soil, turn the soil dark and more fertile.....
and grow more beef or goats even in areas where the land has been destroyed.

Dr. Geoff Lawton and his team proved that desert areas could be made productive again.

Since the worldwide Derivatives markets in 2014 was seven hundred and ten trillion dollars... and the USA Derivatives markets was two hundred and ten trillion dollars..... and since Derivatives are only one part of the massive Insurance Industry......
we can begin to know that the idea of the USA having a thirty trillion dollar debt load will not cause the USA to go bankrupt!

Yes.... at this time the misinformation that is fed to the general public by the one to ten million most highly reimbursed
employees of the wealthiest eight thousand five hundred people on earth is rather in line with the elitist idea of Robert Thomas Malthus.......
and yes.... many of them feel that a ninety percent depopulation is necessary.... which is bad news for ninety percent of us.

CEO's of large companies with a certain number of employees are paid eleven million dollars annually and part of the reason for this is so that
they will have the incentive to withhold critical information from the general public.

Here is a five minute video that can cause the whole discussion on climate change to look
much less scary than in the past.....

Why would you assume that I intend to take this idea in the most extremely unethical and foolish direction possible?

Thank you for livening up the discussion though..... because extreme ideas like that do tend to liven up a debate.

Here is one paragraph by a near death experiencer that pretty much sums up what I am hoping this discussion lays a foundation for.

I'm sure that has some relevance to desalination, even if I can't see it.
I don't have any extreme ideas - I just read the large print on the wall.

If you mean this paragraph...the point is that this is a response to climate change that might just gain a larger percentage of agreement from across the political spectrum and even in more cultures than are now discussing the options.
