Enough about Radiohead vs. Weezer. (They're fine. No offense intended.) Who likes Audioslave? My wife and I love them. She plays their album at least once a day. I say any good red-blooded head-banger or grunge-slogger has got to love them too. Led Zeppelin meets Soundgarden. I hereby nominate them as Best Band of the Twenty-First Century (So Far). Guitars are back! Their solos break new ground. (Sorry I haven't got the liner notes handy, so I don't know the guitarist's name.) I can't remember when I last heard such astounding new sounds come out of a guitar.
RATM rocked. I love Battle of LA. Audioslave is ok, don't like it too much. Cochise is a half decent song.
You officially kick ass my friend...... BTW isn't Audioslave mostly made up from RATM with a different lead singer. Tom Morello is a guitar genius....he ripped it up in RATM.
audioslave is awesome.. rage meets chris cornell.. match made in grunge heaven.. saw them live at the warfield.. they kicked ass.. cornell's powerful voice combined with morello's guitar is killer exploder, hypnotize, bring 'em back alive and set it off are excellent tunes
I am not totally impressed although all I have heard is the three songs that were made into videos. I was a very big Soungarden fan and also somewhat of a big Rage fan. This new stuff is just not raw enough for me, its too overproduced or something. Also, Cornell expressed such a depth of feeling in Soundgarden songs and Rage was just an explosive mix of firepower. I think Cornell just joined "the Dave Grohl I am just still singing to be a cool macho rockstar dude because I never developed any other talent and I have forgotten about the feelings of forlorness and angst that people really related to in my music, so I can get heavy rotation on MTV and keep my popularity eventhough I am washed up and my music is disposable pop club". I am throughly unimpressed. However, I am impressed to see Fragglerocker being so active on the "free thoughts" and "arts and culture" sections. Nice to see you man, instead of wasting his time in the ever humdrum wasteland of mindless topic regurgitation that is the "world events and politics" section. (Note: this is not to say that I think politics and world events are unimportant.)
If you caught my post in the "Ten Favorite Albums" thread you'll deduce that "raw" is not exactly a high priority for this diehard progressive rock fan. Yeah but you can piss so many people off at one time in that section. Everyone is so polite over here. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
I say, that is almost the single greatest thing I have ever seen that I can actually strongly agree with. I think Cornell could have found a better match than the 3 members of the band formerly known as Rage. I don't think Tom, Timmy, and Brad could have found a new singer that did what Zack did. There is no way that Rage could have gotten any better after their breakup, and Audioslave in my opinion, proves that point very well. Sorry Fraggle, they just don't live up to my incredibly high standards.
I liked the issues RATM used in their lyrics. I should start listening to more of Audioslave- and find out if they are as good as everyone says.
Having listened to the album several times, I would have to say that along with Cochise and Like a Stone, that whole entire CD sounds exactly the same from song to song. It's just RATM with Chris Cornell and quasi-religious lyrics. sure, the guitars have changed a tiny bit from RATM (which pretty much used the same chords over and over), but it still doesn't change Tom Morello style.
i think audioslave makes beautiful music. i love tom's method and chris's voice. everything just kinda comes together in a beautiful, clashing harmony, if htat makes sense. :bugeye:
This has been 'the song' for a few months for me Like A Stone On a cobweb afternoon In a room full of emptiness By a freeway I confess I was lost in the pages Of a book full of death Reading how we'll die alone And if we're good we'll lay to rest Anywhere we want to go (chorus) In your house I long to be Room by room patiently I'll wait for you there Like a stone I'll wait for you there Alone On my deathbed I will pray To the gods and the angels Like a pagan to anyone Who will take me to heaven To a place I recall I was there so long ago The sky was bruised The wine was bled And there you led me on (chorus) In your house I long to be Room by room patiently I'll wait for you there Like a stone I'll wait for you there Alone And on I read Until the day was done And I sat in regret Of all the things I've done For all that I've blessed And all that I've wronged In dreams until my death I will wander on
very good combo with cornel and the morello from RATM. very good stuff. they are around to stay. cornell stated that they are a "band" and this is not just some project.
Wait...WAIT! Rage is STILL THE BAND. Their music still lives on in the hearts (and ears) of the true fans out there. Even after 3 years of them breaking up, the sound of Rage still lives on in their 4 SPECTACULAR albums (not including live & rare). I for one, do not believe that Audioslave even deserves to be compared to Rage. I AM NOT saying that Zack made up Rage, nore am I saying that Chris sucks ass (well ok, I am). I am merely saying that as a group Rage was far superior to Audioslave. The whole attitude Rage had (has) was left behind when the group broke up. Yes, the remaining albums continue to put out that attitude, but the attitude alone puts Rage at a higher level of intensity than Audioslave. Sure, Audioslave can be a mellow band, but it just breaks my heart to see (and hear) the four AWESOME ex-members of Rage go from that level of intensity to being so dreary and...BORING.
