I have always wanted to see a box that one connects to two phone lines. One calls either line, the box picks up and gives you the dialtone of the other line. There could be many uses of this

A few people have made robots that solves the Rubik's Cube. Maybe you can give it a try unless you want something truly original (or at least half way).

i was thinking of having an autonomous data logger,,

but my original idea is to have interface with a i/o with a normal hardrive (the same as used in PC) to a micro processor,, so that i can have remote data logging applications which possibly can get gigabytes of data..

Well, for a "robot thingy," it depends on what you want him (or her

) to do. I love to see new robots come out that do things that are not really too useful, but more fun and provide a lot of new types of research. Like with the Rubik's Cube solving robot, the robot itself is not useful but it required advanced recognition of the pieces, the ability to coordinate its "hands" to move the pieces, algorithms for the cube, ect.

What kinda budget do you have?

    I saw a request a couple years ago for a mini-navigator robot.

Basically, it's turned on infront of the user and starts moving in the direction the user is supposed to go. If the user lags behind to far it goes back to the user and 'gets his attention' somehow.

That could be fairly cheap. Depending on budget there could be more interesting projects.

my original idea,, in itself can be very useful,, (below) as it can allow storage of gigabyte of info... which can be used as part of camera module... remote data storage for pocket pc and other like stuff etc etc..

but i am having a hard time deciding what good application that my have as part of a robot,,,

How about a robotic cock roach (or other such bug). You could program it to respond to stimuli in a somewhat unpredictable manner. It may behave quite like a real cock roach, which would just be cool. A spider would be cool, too. If you had a cat, it would probably get a real kick out of the bug.
