What possition were these people in? How were they viewed when they contributed? Is it the word of God translated through mortals? If so, how do we know that the mortals were not just delusional? How much of the text is from mortals and not God?
"People have been reading the Bible for nearly two thousand years. They have taken it literally, figuratively, or symbolically. They have regarded it as divinely dictated, revealed, or inspired, corrupt, or as a human creation. They have acquired more copies of it than any other book. People read it, study it, admire it, disdain it, write about it, argue about it, hate it, and love it. People have lived by it and died for it. And we do not know who wrote it."-Richard Elliot Friedman-
So the religion is based on a book that could have been written by psychotics? Why would anyone have any faith in such a book?
Got a free copy? Too bad they don't include a copy with the bible copies in the hotel rooms, ditributed by missionaries, in train stations, airports, ect.
No, can't say that I do. The one I have cost me about $14. I take that question to mean you haven't read the book?
On a second thought, I got a flavor right now of it and it sucks...designed to cheer leading campaign for bible reader. I'm looking for an analytical answer, not one that refers me to Mark verse ## that says that the bible was written by god...Duh!! http://www.who-wrote-the-bible.com/
Sorry wrong publication. http://btobsearch.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbninquiry.asp?btob=Y&cds2Pid=1478&isbn=0060630353 This one sounds very good, just consider the credible author....I have just ordered a used copy for 5 bucks.
As I said before, I thought it was excellent. Just out of curiosity, where did you find the quote you posted?
I just typed who wrote the bible in a yahoo search, and there was a bunch of leads. Most referred me to bible verses, but one of them was interesting and contained the quote which got my attention. I wouldn't find that site again even if I tried.
No biggy, like I said I was just curious. Interestingly enough, I just posted that quote a while back on this thread. Great quote and so very true imo. Another book you might also enjoy is A History of God by Karen Armstrong. I recommend both books for anyone interested in the subject.
Obviously the Bible was written by many different men. Most notable in the Old Testament is Moses, and in the New Testament is Paul.
Actually the bible has been altered in some way over a thousand times, and has been re-written in some way by 40 different authors. Probably so religion would favor what was going on at that time. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! like the holy trinity for instance.
Sounds interesting, I'll definitely check it out. Thanks for the suggestion. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
many people wrote the Bible and even more beings tried to translate. Genesis from the Christian bible is not the right translation of the real hebreic tora. read "kabbalah for the modern world" by migene gonzalez-wippler. this talks about all of this inculding the big bang and the original genesis, very enlightening.
I don't know where I found the link (I thought it was on this thread), but So these people actually met with aliens then?? Have they said so themselves?? Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
