I’m tying to avoid the welfare issue because it’s a little off topic, but I’ll touch on it once. Being on welfare, you can be free and independent in the sense that you are not tied down to a dead end job. You are free to pursue whatever causes you wish to pursue, and really enjoy life with the limited funds you receive. While working, you might be able to afford more, but then you give up a certain amount of freedom and independence by adhering to a work schedule. There are positive and negative aspects of both. It really comes down to what you choose for yourself. Being on welfare doesn’t necessarily imply that you sit around and do nothing all day. There are tons of productive things you can do with your free time depending on who you are. Especially if you’re a writer or artist. You have more time to concentrate on research and writing. A scientist or inventor wouldn’t have to worry about working, and create inventions that could benefit everybody. The director of “Sense and Sensibility” was out of work for a number of years being supported by his wife. Does that mean he sat around and did nothing? No. He used his free time to become one of the world’s best directors. There are tons of examples of what a person could do if he didn’t have to work. What would you do if you had just enough money coming in to pay for your bare expenses? Some people would choose go to work instead. Perhaps they prefer to have more money, perhaps they enjoy their job, or whatever. Others would choose not to work because they don’t want to be tied up. Perhaps they wish to use their free time to fully concentrate on planning and starting a business or something. Weather or not you choose to sit around and do nothing is irrelevant anyway because it doesn’t mean you don’t deserve support. Some people might sit around, and do nothing. That is their business. If they choose to do so, there is a reason. People with low motivation are products of stifled environments. If people were provided with adequate provisions, and a proper nurturing environment, they wouldn’t be so inclined to do nothing all day. There are certain benefits of being on welfare such as Medicaid. You could have a great job, and still never receive the benefits that you can get with Medicaid. With it, you can see a doctor anytime you need to. Checkups, dentists, eye exams, etc. You can see a psychiatrist weather you’re nuts or simply having some personal problems. You can go to the chiropractor a few times a week for a massage. You also receive over-the-counter and prescription medicine as needed. Another benefit is that you don’t pay taxes. Alright I'm a girl, and I woulnd't have a problem dating a man who made that much in a month if he was WORKING for it. If he had like a part time job and going to school and such. But I would never date a man that leeched off the system like that. Basically I'M paying for his way of life with my hard earned money. Get a job and get off the government's back.

I think 'coolskill' doesn't seem to understand how capitalism is supposed to work. Capitalism is supposed to reward initiative, enterprise and hard work through higher pay or income through what you are selling. The overall process is complex, but basically the better goods you make, the more people will buy them, and the more money you will make-which, if you invest in the right forms of capital, add to your wealth. Welfare doesn't give you that possibility. You remain stuck on the same basic payment, with little possibility of it changing come hell or high water, and there are no incentives like there are if you work. In fact, one of the reasons why centrally-planned economies like the Soviet Union collapsed was because the system allocated resources in a very inefficient way that did not encourage private initiative or increases in quality and efficiency; the empty shelves in the stores whilst plants churned out steel was a good example of what stupidities follow when goods are not allocated according to markets. Welfare was essentially designed to ameliorate the lot of the poor, weak, sick and crippled in society, not back up those who are unwilling to get of their backsides and do something to improve this world-and boy, does this world need improving. Even taking part in a blood-donation program is better than doing nothing. I could not stand a Woman who saw me only as a source of money (I've encountered one who treated me that way and it is very unpleasant) but don't be surprised when Women are revolted by your apathy and lack of initiative and drive.
