This thread is for two types of people: those that are smart and those that think they are smart.

Please do not correct my grammar if there is a mistake... my "gift" is not language.

Anyway, I am asking for some lists. What kind?
Well, what music do you listen to, favorite band? What movies? How about good books (I prefer non-fiction)? What do you do when you are bored?

    Anything is helpful.

    Thank you!

Okay. Personally I like lots of types of music; some rap, (some!) pop, but mostly I like guitar music. Traditional four peice bands who play guitars, that's generally my thing.

Films? I like lots of films and over the years I find that I go off some films and begin to like others that I previously did not. I find the more times I watch a film the more I begin to 'see through it'. I begin to see the message the film sends out to the viewers, and how some films clash with their messages. It's quite interesting to see the values the different nations send out, however living in an English speaking country means most of the films I see are either British or American. These two countries still send out quite different messages though!

Subtitled films are an option but they're more effort to watch (I'm sure you'll agree), but I'm sure it would be interesting to compare all the worlds nations' messages to see how they differ!

Book wise there are quite a few good ones out there. I prefer non-fiction too. I find a good book is one where the reader takes something applicable to life away with them; something that can be put to good use in the real world, and something that will improve the readers quality of life, or at least their outlook on life.

What do I do when I'm bored? Lots of things. I play console games, or I read, or I watch films. All of the above really. Ciao.

I haven't but if the concept of the book is what it looks like, then it seems the music group 'Guns'n'Roses' took the concept for their band from almost identical lines. They play some hard hitting music, but then they also have the soft ballads: Guns and Roses. I think the majority of these generations see that idea as a bit corny now, despite the music being good. I don't know if Guns'n'Roses were an early manufactured band, but I suspect it because three band members are from the United States, and one band member is from England. The product design (the guns'n'roses concept) coupled with this sparsity of 'founders' seems to hint to them being created, and if my knowledge is correct the book 'War and Peace' even has a couple of guns and a couple of roses on the front cover.

P.S. The skill of the guitar work also hints at a rare talent; one that could only be used to it's full potential if the other band members were of an equal caliber.

I listen to band like Tool, who project their message to their audience using lyrics that make you stop and think. I my all time favorite movie is The Matrix, not only does it have good acting and cool graphics, but the religious and philosophical issues raised in the film sre outstanding.I read when I can, but I don't have much time to spare. Right now, I'm reading "Anthem" by Ayn Rand and a book called "We"; I foget the author's name, but it is a hard-to-pronounce russian name. I am actually reading these books for an independent study that I have to do for school, ideally, it ahould be about 20 pages long and I submitted my thesis for it today. I have trouble finding books that I enjoy because it isn't like a movie where you watch the first half hour and you can see the general themes and direction. I like books with an intermediate language structure, and that have plots and themes that go beyond the pages. For school, I just finished reading Catcher in the Rye, and we had seminars about it roughly an hour ago, I didn't like the book because I am supposed to be able to relate to the main character, but I just can't make the proper connection.

anuyway, now you get the idea of what books, movies and music please my senses and indulge my brain into a pool of thought.

Music - Lots of cool shit. Trust me on this one.

Movies - The Matrix, Fight Club, Super Troopers (Why didn't anyone say that?), The Animatrix.. I even enjoy bad sci-fi movies. Have you ever seen the movie "Cube"? Fuckin' sweet. There's 7 people trapped inside this huge cube that's made out of smaller cubic rooms. The cube is 27 rooms x 27 rooms x 27 rooms, so there's almost 20,000 rooms total and the place is rigged with traps and they have to figure out how to get out. Sweet.

Books - I prefer non-fiction too. As of right now, I'm reading "A New Kind of Science" by Stephen Wolfam.

When I'm bored - I play and compose music on my bass guitar.. and then I share what I've made with my band mates and we write parts for it. www.needforpanic.com - my band's site.

I love all sciences, particularly Biology and Physics. So I buy books and I educate myself in my free time. Right now I'm learning Anatomy and Physiology.

I also run. I usually run 6 miles in about 45 minutes if I'm running when the air is cool. I can also run 12 miles in an hour and a half. You should see the veins on my legs after I do those.

There's more, but I haven't the will to write anymore.

I guess it would be fair to list some of my stuff:

Music: Mostly rock. I like classical music.

Movies: Ocean's Eleven, Fight Club, Good Will Hunting, Apollo 13. I have seen Cube II... it was a messed up movie in my opinion. I mean, I liked it but it just had a certain level of weirdness so that I would never watch it again. Haha.

Books: Non-fiction. I like physics and math books. I also like puzzle books. I have a few computer books, most on programming in c++.

When I am bored: I now play video games. Since I came to college, I have been playing many many games. Especially Halo. I have gotten into Counter-Strike and Quake III Arena. I try to fit homework somewhere in there.

Maybe there is more to say, but I don't know.

Please, everyone else participate in this thread; I am interested!

Fiction: Sci-Fi and Fantasy, Ender's Game is really good. The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice.

    Music: X-files theme like music.

Movies: All the Matrix's, All the Jurrasic Parks, and any sci-fi type movies.

Books: For non-fiction I like unique science books that talk about science mysteries. One book I like is a very small book that was made years ago, it shows some ways life forms could look on high and low gravity worlds and other stuff like that. I think it was just called Alien Life or something like that.

When I am bored: I play alot of video games too. I like RPGs and other long games that have story lines to them. The ones I like are Chronotrigger, Chrono Cross, Star Ocean The Second Story, and alot of others.

No such thing as boredom, there is always something to do~ I never got into video games, so I guess I'll have to suffer fresh air and the use of all my other muscles.

ima ssuming you want to know what smart people are like, and what they do, so that
    1) you can emulate them and pretend to be smart
    or
    2) identify smart people and prove to yourself that they exist.
    or
    3) u dont wanna know, you just want to see who in sciforums considers themselves smart, maybe u just want to get to know us.

oh well, i dont have a problem with any of those.

im not smart, but il tell u about me anyway.

music- black metal, punk, anything heavy, depressing, or enraging. NIN, cradle of filth, murderdolls, the distillers.

books-im curently working on war and piece (no shit, if i finish it before new years i get 50$), re-reading the dead god trillogy, lots of sci-fi and fantasy, anything by HPL (oh god i wanna go dig up that mans corpse and fuck it like christ!)

films- horror and scifi all the way! old horror flicks, or anything with loads of blood.

when bored i play video games, work on some progs, update my sight, wander around the niehgborhood looking for a dumpster or somthing to light on fire, talk to my friends, net surf, and loaf around the house. im not bored often though. im usualy so fucking bussy with everything.

    1) Well, just to emulate some traits.
    2) No need to prove they exist. I know many
    3) I do want to get to know all the smart people I can. Though, I am hoping for a positive influence

It just sounds stupid in English. The Indiana Jones Trilogy, Lord Of the Rings(however inacurate it's still entertaining), 2001 A Space Odyssy
Books: Mostly non fiction and scifi. A Brief History of Time, The Ascent of Man, I, Robot Anything by Jane Goodall, Stephen Hawking or Issac Asimov.
