Now that 2003 is over, we can finally discuss what the best movie was.

For me it had to be two movies:

ROTK and X-Men 2. Suprisingly enough, I hated the Matrix films.

The Hulk was a major let down.

The movie that I'm most looking foward to in 2004 is Sky Captain and the World of Tomarrow.

Mona Lisa Smile...hands down..a tour de force

This movie amazed me. It was good, very good. After the first one i was expecting more phiosophical banter with little to no action but nope. It kept the brains and the action intact.

    Suprisingly I thought I would but I didn't.

I would say something about this movie if I could just watch it without falling asleep.

It looked horribly retarded and actually managed to make that hot as hell woman Angelina Jolie look like a man...why???

I am waiting for Spiderman 2, Shrek 2.

I gotta agree for me Xmen 2 and ROTK were definatley the best films of 2003, i went to see Matrix:Reloaded and found it lacking plot wise, way too much hype really so when revolutions came out i didnt even bother.
In 2004 im really looking forward to going seeing spiderman 2, and if it meets its deadline i'll probably go see the Fantastic Four film on news years eve.

Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised by X2. With few exceptions, everything was done wonderfully; a great movie.

Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions were...just awful. Nearly unbearable. Before they came out I was excited about this story continuing, because I really like The Matrix. But jeez, what a couple of bad movies.

I still haven't seen ROTK, though I don't consider that a scifi flick, so wouldn't put it on a "best scifi of 2003" list anyway. I'm not sure if I will see it...I discovered when FOTR came out that I'm a pretty hardcore purist, and some of the differences in the story between the movie & the book were terrifically disappointing to me.

Man, this movie looks so corny. It may be a good flick but not as good as Mars Attack...hehe. I think the Dream Catcher was pretty good but was that in 2003 or 2002? Not sure if you all have seen it or not?

DreamCatcher was a 2003 movie. You didn't like that movie, did you? I thought it was God awful.

I thought that even the book was a but shifty (if that is not a word then it is now). And usually the book is better than the movie.

Were there also lots of farts in the movie? And how did they get that passed the censorship thingie.

    My favorites for 2003:

    1. Pirates of the Caribbean
    2. LOTR: Return of the King
    3. Matrix Reloaded
    4. Underworld
    5. X-Men 2

You would have had to read the book to fully appreciate it. But then King is difficult to grasp in any medium.

    Awww.

Am I the only person that liked the 're-image' of Battlestar Galactica?

(I think it counts as a movie, even though some may classifiy as a mini-series. And in my opinion it is new too!)

Equilibrium was by far the best Sci Fi movie of 2003. Wasn't big budget but was awesome nonetheless. By far one of the best movies I have ever seen.

Also, Underworld was pretty good, flawed, yet it was pretty amazing.

Underworld was amazing... "flawed" - I don't know... pretty much every writer makes up their own properties for supernatural beings...

    Solaris was sweet...

I didn't like the fact that the Vampires had reflections, that bugged me all the way through the movie. And the whole Silver Nitrate bullet thing just wouldn't work! But I did like the UV bullets

Equilibrium was OK, but improbable in the extreme.

X-Men 2 was great: except that, with Charles Xavier causing seizures and migraines in everyone everywhere, there'd have been global gridlock, disasters and anarchy within minutes. Civilisation should have all but collapsed.

The Core was probably my favourite, though I know that losing the Earth's magnetosphere wouldn't be anything like as cataclysmic as the film portrayed it.

It was a grim year for SciFi for sure.
I'd have nominate Final Destination 2. (or maybe that was 2002??)
Thankfully, no one mentioned Terminator 3.

Meh, who cares if Equlibrium was improbable. It defied a lot of action movie conventions, it was a ground breaking movie and hardly anyone sat up and took notice. By far the most underrated film of the year.
Final Destination 2 was oout last year. I remember going to see it on Valentines Day. Man that movie sucked and that's not Sci-Fi dammit!
I'm not happy about classing LOTR as Sci-Fi either. That's fantasy, FANTASY!! GAH!

Terminator 3 was the biggest dissapointment of the year. I expected something similar to the game. I wanted to see humans vs terminators in a full blown war. Not how it all began. We've been through all of this before! Do we have to wait another 10 years for the next Terminator? Imagine it, T-100Z (Z is for Zimmer frame)
