"The below description was recorded by the young Paramahansa Yogananda as he was given his first taste of Samadhi, or as he called it, Cosmic Consciousness, by his Guru, Sri Yukteswar. It should be noted that there are various types and levels of Samadhi ranging from bliss and images of revelation up to the highest mergence in the Absolute. "

Master spoke caressingly, comfortingly. His calm gaze was unfathomable. "Your heart's desire shall be fulfilled". I was bewildered. He struck gently on my chest above the heart.

My body became immovably rooted. breath was drawn out of my lungs. Soul and mind instantly lost their physical bondage and streamed out like a fluid light from my every pore. The flesh was as though dead; yet in my intense awareness I knew that never before had I been fully alive. My sense of identity was no longer narrowly confined to a body but embraced the circumambient atoms. People on distant streets seemed to be moving gently over my own remote periphery. The roots of plants and trees appeared through a dim transparency of the soil; I discerned the inward flow of their sap.

The whole vicinity lay bare before me. My ordinary frontal vision was now changed to a vast spherical sight, simultaneously all-perceptive. Through the back of my head I saw men strolling far down Rai Ghat Lane, and noticed also a white cow that was leisurely approaching. When she reached the open ashram gate, I observed her as though with my two physical eyes. After she had passed through the brick wall of the courtyard, I saw her clearly still.

All objects within my panoramic gaze trembled and vibrated like quick motion pictures. My body, Master's, the pillared courtyard, the furniture and floor, the trees and sunshine, occasionally became violently agitated, until all melted into a luminescent sea; even as sugar crystals, thrown into a glass of water, dissolve after being shaken. The unifying light alternated with materializations of forms, the metamorphoses revealing the law of cause and effect in creation. An oceanic joy broke upon calm endless shores of my soul. The Spirit of God, I realized is exhaustless bliss; His body is countless tissues of light. A swelling glory within me began to envelop towns, continents, the earth, solar and stellar systems, tenuous nebulae, and the floating universes. The entire cosmos, gently luminous, like a city seen afar at night, glimmered within the infinitude of my being.

The divine dispersion of rays poured from an Eternal Source, blazing into galaxies, transfigured with ineffable auras. Again and again I saw the creative beams condense into constellations, then resolve into sheets of transparent flame. By rhythmic reversion, sextillion worlds passed into diaphanous luster, then fire became firmament. Blissful amrita, nectar of immortality, pulsated through me with a quicksilver like fluidity. The creative voice of God I heard resounding as Aum, the vibration of the Cosmic Motor.

Suddenly the breath returned to my lungs. With a disappointment almost unbearable, I realized that my infinite immensity was lost. Once more I was limited to the humiliating cage of a body, not easily accommodative to the Spirit. Like a prodigal child I had run away from my macrocosmic home and had imprisoned myself in a narrow microcosm.

    Later master explained "It is the Spirit of God that actively sustains every form and force in the universe;
yet He is transcendental and aloof in the blissful uncreated void beyond the world of vibratory phenomena. Those who have attained Self-realization on earth live a similar twofold existence. Conscientiously performing their work in the world, they are yet immersed in an inward beautitude"

So I finaly found what I was looking for,
It turns out that the story about Yogananda incorruptability was crap.
SRF decided to leave out the bit about Yogananda's body being embalmed 24hrs. after His death, the letter which was paraphrased in Autobiography of a Yogi, left this little deatil out. Yay for them. It seems that SRF is guilty of a bunch of this kind of thing. They're have also been accusations about Yogananda, having sexual reationships, and so on, none of it can be said exactly one way or the other. There was an incident involving Him having a supposed son, which turns out to be false, http://www.anandainfo.com/dnatestingdocumentation1.htm
Reasearching all of it I can't say they're is evidence to sully Yogananda himeslf, basicaly they're only alligations, and probably always will be, given that He's been gone for 50 years, and I have seen myself in these cases that lies are told left right and centre, it's hard to say whoes telling the truth without anything to back it up.
I'm very disapionted in all of it to say the least.

I've not found anything about Hariharanada at this stage, but if I do I'll be sure to post it here, for anybody who is interested.

This Hariharananda might well be the well-known commentator of Vyasa-Bhasya (see his Bhasvati) and Samkhya pandita Hariharananda Aranya.

As for the nirvikalpa-samadhi (it is nirvikalpa, not nirvakalpa), it is used only in the Vedanta tradition to denote the last stage in the meditative evolution of a sadhaka. Nih means non-, devoid of, vikalpa is wrong notion, distorted representation, imputation - synonymous to the Buddhist kalpana. So, this is such a samadhi (meditation) that is devoid of wrong representations of dheya, the object of meditation.

Yoga-sutra of Patanjali clearly indicates 4 types of nirvikalpa-samadhi:

    1. Nirvitarka-smadhi
    2. Nirvicara-samadhi
    3. Nirananda-samadhi
    4. Nirasmita-samadhi

More about them, see the link on the first page.

Yes to all, but it is not the same Hariharananda, this is Paramahansa Hariharananda Giri of the Kriya Yoga of Lahiri Mahasaya

There are 5 levels of samade, or union with God. Paramahansa Hariharananda Giri taught me how to "be one with Him" (God). Samade is an experience beyond the body and mind. One where you are experiencing your true nature, soul consciousness. Samade is beyond words. It is an experience of infinite Love and Light. When you are in samade there is no need to breath because you are completely connected to the source of life.

From living with Baba Hariharananda in Florida for almost 2 years I can tell you from first hand experience that he was able to heal people with his touch. He used to tell me what I was thinking and doing even when I was away from the ashram. The first time I ever met him he sat me down in front of him and said “the power of God is within you but you do not realize it.” He then touched the top of my head and my whole body began to vibrate with a bliss-filled energy that is beyond words. Two months later I was in India sitting in front of Sai Baba, after he invited pulled me out of a crowd of over 5000 people and invited me to come sit next to him. He read my thoughts and filled me with bliss with his touch, just as Paramahansa Hariharananda had done two months before.

When you meditate daily, with deepest love, you will begin to see an inner light that, with time, grows closer until it surrounds you with a love filled milky white light. When the light of God surrounds you you experience the breathless, deathless state of samade.
