God bless america! This is what we've continually seen on tv since 9/11.
But today I just bothered myself to sit and contemplate :why should God Bless America? Are we any better than our enemies,ok I assume we are better than terrorists who launched attacks against innocent Americans, but are Americans rulers any better
than Saddam Hussein or that despot North korean president.
We assaulted afghanistan and drove Taliban away.we freed Afghan peolpe and brought democracy back there,ok!very good!but didn't we know before 9/11 that taliban were a regime of atrocities?(though many afghan people still believe that taliban were a puppet regime the us and Pakistan had placed in Afghanistan to disgrace islam and destroy their country)
Hadn't we seen horrendous scenes of beheading and executions of women on our tvs before that?or maybe we didn't have any justifiable excuse to attack them and save afghan people?ok then do we have any justifiable excuse to attack Iraq?
Do not even attempt to give me one of those brainwashed nonesense that Iraq's becoming a nuclear and biological threat, even those who put forth such shit don't believe themselves.
the only excuse we may have to attack Iraq is our will to kill more and more innocent muslim children and women?
while watching bbc today,I saw a pic from tokyo which really impressed me?there was a commemoration ceremony for 9/11 attacks and there laid a piece of paper with these words on it: GOD BLESS WORLD.
I think it is far more acceptable than our selfish cliche.

You really think so? Have you followed events there recently?

I'm going to start a new bumpersticker fad for those of us who think it's stupid for god to bless america. Here it is, chuush, among other sciforumers:

    RA BLESS AMERICA!

But I do like the God Bless World thing, or maybe God Bless Humanity. After all, I'm sick of people saying how shitty humans are, since they are being extremely hippocritcal (did I spell that right?) by saying such things. On the whole, I believe that people...are....good...people. Damn it's hard to say that with Xev, who may or may not contradict me (probably succesfully either way) lurking with the 'invisibles' of sciforums (those that are in invisible mode).

No, at the moment, our leaders and those of us that voted them into power are not any better than the ones we fight. We're just the guys with the bigger guns, if the media were on their side we'd have overrun the US and replaced our president with another despotic dictator. BTW, saying another implies that we already have one.

    Welcome to sciforums!

While I appreciate the humour in your suggestion for the bumper stickers.... but being an avid amateur Egyptologist, cannot stand by watching a great civilization be lowered to even satire about Bush (as much as I cannot stand the android)

    In jest... may I suggest:

    A ctionable
    I ntelligence
Bless America.... same result as god, imho

Well, as much as we would love to save the world the average American (ie Sheep) wont go for it unless someone did something 2 us. If we get attacked we get all pissed off and are willing to kill everyone (WWI, WWII, 9/11). If we are not directly attacked then everyone wants to protest (Vietnam, Gulf I, Gulf II). I think people were to busy having sex and raising families to care about Korea.

Religion doesn't kill people. People with religion kill people.

Someone, please, invent a religious person lock.

Actually, religion does kill people. All those mysterious deaths were the result of religious books floating up and whacking them on the heads, didn't you know?

    God bless america!
rather ironic slogan for a pro-zionist secular state don't you think.

what has America learned from 9/11?

    1) Most of the American people: nothing.
    2) The more incisive members of the American public:

a)I guess their fears have been confirmed. It's a 2 tier world, the people and the plutocrats.....sorry the politicains.
    b) mass opinion can easily be manipulated: perceive it then believe it, change the perception change the belief.

    3) The American plutocrats (Bush , Cheney, Wolfman, Rummy et al) well they've learned what a bunch of suckers we all really are.
    4) it doesn't matter what anyone thinks or learns.....it's gonna be a PNAC century ladies and gents.

so buckle up....it's gawn git mighty bumpy.

I will agree that our Government seems to be pro-Israel, but the average joe-sixpack seems to be every bit as anti-semetic as the rest of the world.

As for the God bless America sentiment, yea how dare a country whose population is over 70% christian make insensitive statements like this!

I'll take your lack of incisive riposte as lack of ability.

What we should have learned from 9/11:

The nature of war has changed. It will never again be fought by armies representing nations and following some formal "rules of engagement." It will be fought by small irregular forces, perhaps as small as one, representing non-national or trans-national groups, ignoring all the rules of engagement, including deliberate targeting of civilian populations and suicide missions.

Saudi Arabia is no friend of the USA. Their money funds virtually all of the anti-American terrorist training camps that pass for "schools" in areas that have none. They provided all the money and leadership and most of the manpower for the 9/11 highjackings. For us to continue to treat them as an ally is totally asinine.

The monotheistic, patriarchal religions that keep metastasizing out of the Mideast like cancer epidemics are evil. We should stop pussyfooting around the sacred subject of "freedom of religion" and accept the fact that Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are incompatible with civilization. The world will continue to be one giant gang-fight until we develop the spine to tell the Abrahamists that they can't practice their hatred and stupidity on our planet.

We simply have to stop being such profligate users of petroleum. It's our appetite for oil -- and that of the other industrialized nations -- that makes the Mideast so politically important that we keep interceding in their internecine squabbles that have been going on for a millennium and a half. Most of America's workers have jobs that they can do just as effectively from home with a computer, a phone, and a webcam. All we need to make telecommuting a reality is managers who know how to manage people they can't see -- by measuring their output instead of the time they spend at their desks. And of course we have to strip the oil companies and the auto companies of their stranglehold on the U.S. economy.

These are the lessons of 9/11. Who's ready to learn them? More importantly, who's ready to tackle the job of teaching them to a nation that loves its SUVs, its Christianity, its back-stabbing Saudi Arabian "allies," and its occasional "safe" little war fought on somebody else's soil.

I think what we NEED to learn is how to play hardball and do what is to our overall benifit without worrying about playing nice. If the world thinks we are the Devil himself and couldn't hate us more, we may as well act like the Devil. We wouldn't lose much.

Lessons from Machiavelli would do wonders right about now.

"You must know there are two ways of contesting, the one by the law, the other by force; the first method is proper to men, the second to beasts; but because the first is frequently not sufficient, it is necessary to have recourse to the second." -The Prince
