    At 12:27 EST the United States in conjunction with the United Kingdom and supported by various other countries begain attacking, by air, Afghanistan and the Taliban.

    The attacks have been isolated to only Afghanistan, we'll see if they spread to other countries soon. I would believe that the inital war on terror will be exclusivley against the Taliban and bin Laden, then will spread to other countries.

    I'll keep everyone updated, if you get information please report it here or somewhere else on sciforums.com.

    Thanks.

    Well it seems that at least American intelligence read my post and realised I was right to reccomend writers. Ok, it's not exactly what I had in mind, but it's a start!

    From the BBC website:
    American intelligence specialists are reported to have "secretly" sought advice on handling terrorist attacks from Hollywood film-makers.
    According to the trade paper Variety, a discussion group between movie and military representatives was held at the University of Southern California last week.

    The group is said to have been set up by the US Army to discuss future terrorist activity in the wake of the attacks of 11 September.

    Among those reported to have been involved were Die Hard screenwriter Steven E De Souza and Joseph Zito, director of Delta Force One and Missing in Action.

    Other, more conventional, feature makers were also said to have been present, including Randal Kleiser, who made Grease.

    Such a scenario - where the army turns to the creators of film fantasy for advice about real-life disaster - would seem an unusual, not to say unlikely, reversal of roles.

    Variety dismissed the notion that such a scenario - where the army turns to the creators of film fantasy for advice about real-life disaster - was unusual, not to say unlikely, reversal of roles.

    The paper argues that there is much the masters of screen suspense can offer the US Army in the way of tactical advice.

    In particular, says Variety, the entertainment industry can offer expertise in understanding plot and character, as well as advice on scenario training.

    The US Army is also behind the university's Institute for Creative Technologies (ICT).

    The ICT calls upon the resources and talents of the entertainment industry and computer scientists to help with virtual reality scenario simulation.

    Variety reported that the ICT's creative director James Korris confirmed that the meetings between the film-makers and the US Army were taking place.

    However, the paper added that Mr Korris had refused to give details as to what specific recommendations had been made to the US government.

    As thecurly1 pointed out the U.S. and Great Britain have attacked specific places in Afghanistan. George W. claims that around 40 other nations are helping us in this current endeavor. The target is the Taliban...for now.

    What next?

    And what's ol' Saddam up to these days?

    Saddum is probably hunting for a hole with a lid. A sturdy one.

    If they are dug in

    We can find the air vents and "smoke" them out.

    I read that Afghanistan has earthquakes already? Could be dangerous to create one of our own, not knowing what we would create. It sounds like something that we could control to a certain extent but then, mother nature takes over and shit could hit the fan.

    Do any of you think we have any real "no strings attached" friends in this region?

    Nope, don't exist. Listen to the news. If it can be believed then Dubba is buying cooperation with the various nations surrounding Afganistan. With aid, food, promises of help in one form or another. Pakistan stands to gain the elimination of a thorn in their side that prevents them from advancing into western modes in full fledged, open type, acceptance so that they can deal with the west on equal footing as far as culture goes. The Taliban would not approve of such behaviour and would setup retaliations should Pakistan try to move it that direction. Notice that Dubba says that he would not attempt to govern Afganistan but that what ever government comes to power there that his only requirement is that it be friendly to Pakistan.

    "Political" friends with no strings attached? Not likely. We're best buds with Great Britain, but we're constantly scratching each other's backs, too. We like to exchange gifts of knowledge of technology with them, for example.

    The type of 'strings' will be determined by what each side values and by the political, military, and financial objectives of any "friend" we link arms with.

    Significantly crippling or destroying the intricate networks created by those who would terrorize the "free" world will cost us all. Probably a good time to review what we think of as a sacrifice.

    I was watching BBC last night. The economy is bad there. May be they want to get a boost from War Economy just like what we are doing - deficit spending and spending.....

    France has stated that it is ready to take military action in the region of Afghanistan, but only when and where it thinks appropriate.

    Proper?

    Improper?

    ~~~~~
    Germany, too, has become actively supportive of America's stance and actions.
    Is Germany ready to do some housecleaning? To make the atmosphere in that country less...hospitable to terrorists and their supporters?
    ~~~~~

    The Northern Alliance appears to be holding their own (with support from various and sundry). Will they remain lodged in the northeast corner of the region, or will they begin to move south?

    Whatcha think?

    There is a lot more that is going on behind the scene that we do not know about. Even the CNN and American media put out sanitized and same story, while you can pick up additional stuff from BBC and other sources.

    We ran out of targets to bomb in 2 days (alright 2.5 days...) Now, what the 3 aircraft carriers are going to do? (One aircraft carrier is equal to a nice size country's total military capability)

    They said 80% of Birmingham is Muslim,so won't be to long before we are attacking the USA.

    Unless there is a religious integration like the black & white integration of the 60s, we are heading for a disaster.
