no one will ever know if there is a god or not, so it's not really worth debating over. even if he comes down with his angels and horns and says to you personally, "i am god", you dont have to believe it. after all, seeing is not alwas believing

God is an invisible imaginary creator/ruler of the Universe invented by primitive people long time ago before they discovered what makes the world go round.
btw theres about 3 000 religions and all have different beliefs/gods,which one is right/truth?
    NONE imo.
only religion hides the truth and lies about reality!!
god is only a thought in your head

    Like I said before:

God is not defined by the opinons of men, rather God REVEALS Himself to mankind through the Spirit of Holiness. Without Whom you would NEVER believe or "understand", no matter how much you tried.

well thats just the long way of saying; "nobody's ever seen or heard of such a being, or has any evidence whatsoever to justify belief in such a being."

Basically we both said the same thing.

Therefore concluding that reality is not at all "real", which is a statement profusely irreconcilable with logic.

All big words aside, I am confused over how you think someone saying "god is only a thought in your head", somehow leads to the conclusion that reality is not real.

    Care to explain?

How is it that this thread has descended into an argument about whether God exists?

Whether or not he does has very little to do with teaching children about religion.

I think that children should be told about the beliefs and customs of the major world religions in school, it doesn't have to be presented as fact. Teachers simply have to say 'Muslims believe so and so' instead of 'so and so happens or is true'. If parents want to raise their children in a particular faith (send them to Sunday school etc), that is their business and it isn't the place of the state to contradict any personally held belief. But the fact is that not everyone believes the same thing, and making children aware of this will help make them more tolerant to others beliefs/religions.

    Scaperzrule,

Thank you. this is exactly what I'm saying. Of course you can't teach one over the other, that's what your church/temple/mosque (or lack of same) is for. However, religion exists and is important to some 90% of the global population. That is probably a higher than the percentage of people with musical skill yet we teach music. I just don't understand why tolerance has to mean exclusiveness as opposed to inclusiveness. The teacher doesn't even have to make a comment on the existence of God or non-existence.

"God is not defined by the opinons of men, rather God REVEALS Himself to mankind through the Spirit of Holiness. "

So, we should not believe the bible, then, since it is the opinions of men.

The Bible reveals, and I stress the word, that in the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

I think its the 1st chapter of John.

To me, that means that the concept of god coincided with the inception of language, a valid hypothesis.
I mean, I could write a book too, and in that book I could say that all the words within are holy, and it would still just be my opinion.

How did you possibly infer that the "Word" has anything to do with language?

Do you see the capital 'W' there?

What do you think "Word" means then?

To me, "the spirit of holiness" means personal intuition or revelation (of the devine). Even if that revelation is written down, when someone else reads it - how do they know it was not just my opinion? How do you know that the bible is not just someone's opinion?
