    G'day to everyone.

I've been a bit shy about starting a thread all of my own but I can't keep my curiosity inside any longer.

I've always had a facination about the abilities of the brain. From what I understand we only use a very small portion of our brains and humankind has accomplished amazing things. But think about what we could do if we used the whole of our brains?

I mean, there's the usual abilities like telepathy, levitation, astral travelling, psychic ability, the ability to move objects with your mind and many other things I can't think of right now.

My problem is that I have a limited imagination and I thought maybe some of you could come up with new things that humans could possibly do if they used all of the power of the brain.

    What do you all think?

    Cheers
    Teri

    banshee, oooooh banSHEE

getting caught in a reallly, really boring place for a long time helps to spur the imagination. I find it easier to just let my mind wander when it happens randomly in a boring situation-waiting for a dl, stuck in a boring class (which may not apply to you-but you get the idea). I can do it up to the point where I might as well have lost consciousness of the world around me, I'll 'wake up' a minute or two later and think: whoa, it's a good thing the teacher didn't call on me.

    Those are my suggestions.

Welcome to the fine art of threading.

If we have the power of telekinesis, then those with enough concentration I believe could change the atomic configurations of different things around them. Starting fires(pyrokinesis) is in my opinion related to it, all you have to do is speed up the atoms to the point where a fire starts. You could get rid of your oven and stovetop in the kitchen, heat everything with your mind, everything would be cooked perfectly.

    I'm hungry.

    Good thread.

    Good topic....

My first instinct is to question if it is really true that we only use a small percentage of the total brain capacity. The various uses have been mapped and are spread all across the brain's area, so where is this hidden area that we don't use?

Next, if this is true, then I would hazard the guess that concentration should be vastly improved, that intuitive logic ( that which allows you to come to resonable conclusions without sufficient info) should be increased dramatically, and that logical thought progression should increase. There might also follow better thought retention and visual retaining memory.

I am a bit sceptic about the psy part. Should it be true it seems to favor the women more than the men. It is more frequent to hear the women speak of psy events and occurances than men. That is not to say that males do not speak of it, particualry the younger males. Is it that when the male ages that we lose to some degree the ability? Or is it that the male gets more wrapped up in the day to day at the expense of this potential ability? As I am on "what if" ground here those are thoughts I would throw out.

If we could use our whole mind...

If we could utilize our whole brain, we could realize a few implicate truths about the seven dwarfs. We might realize that, as they sang their happy songs while skipping toward the mines, their sorrow burst through their bloodshot eyes like shotgun lava. We might realize that Grumpy was denied personal levity by his subconscious hatred for his own homosexual desires as the others bathed in the radiance of Snow White. We would know why Dopey cried himself to sleep. We would know why sneezy had a lot of South American friends. My god, we could even weave plaid and sing songs about hollow victory.

I think that we cannot imagine what we can accomplish if we could use all of our brain just like people 100 years ago could not imagine space travel. I think the human race will eventually utilize the entire brain, too bad it probably won't happen in our lifetimes.

I'm very serious when I say that a pill with apprehension and self esteem would make millions. There's a lack of both of those EVERYWHERE.

I'd personally slip it into the water supply-once it was proven safe by the FDA of course.

Well... how could our mind move an object? Through frequency "radiating"? Have to collect energy in our mind, reorganize it into systems and frameworks of energy for certain things, and then form the energy (neural energy) into a form for deployment of another system of energy (ie: energy slingshot, tendril, gun, etc).
I think telepathy would be much more possible, and that we should understand whether brains work the same way when they coordinate with another (mindmeld, right?) then as they do standing alone.
It seems to be based on creativity and abstraction, I think... and as much as I hate to say it, logical organization and definite structure take away from creativity, but they're probably what's needed to form mental energy into one idea or process or projection.
How much electricity is in our minds? Can electricity move objects? HMM.

energy in the noggin.....it is there in everybody, but not everyone can use it. not only do we have the potential to move things, but you also would start to hear things and see things.......it is probably good that we only use what we do for a couple of reasons.....1....we would probably all freak out b/c of all teh wierd shit that would happen, and ......2....eveybody would think that they knew more than everyone else......we would be like a bunch of politicians

    G'day

Well, some of those responses gave me a little insight into who I'm writing to:-
Patman, I wish we all could get along too. In this forum I think we pretty much do. (at least I hope we do).
Shrike, you've got me wondering how lasers would fix things?
Malversation2010, you're right about this lifetime, I think we've still got a lot of evolving to do.
Wet1, good point about the theory itself. Don't know where I heard it but I know it started me thinking about the possibilities. Although, about the psy part, do you really think males are less prone to be a bit psychic? Maybe it's not macho or something. Imagine reading someone else's mind. God, what a mess we'd probably get into.
Pizzaboy, changing the atomic configuration of anything would have to be mind blowing - since everything is made up of atoms (and if there are any physicists out there who can tell me I've got it wrong, please do) then if we change the configuration of atoms what would we get? That makes my mind blow a fuse!
khjavy8, I'd say you'd be right about the freaking out, but let's say we've evolved enough to control it.
and Machaon, I read your theory on the 7 dwarfs more than once. I love it - but at 1.45am I'm having trouble comprehending it. Thanks for the giggle.
I love all you crazy people! Our minds are weird and wonderful both at the same time.
We've really got to put our heads together and find out the meaning of life!
    Cheers friends,
    Teri

Yes, for some reason I notice the extreme lack of posts in any direction from the males other than sceptism. This excludes the younger males who do post. This seems to follow in the general populace though this a a feeling from past conversations and not the results of some scientfic study or poll results.

At the same time, a lot of the women seem to be vastly more attentive to it. Emotional feelings, perception of something not physically there, call it what you will. And they are far less sceptical than the males in their answers. (Is this a women tact thing? I don't think so.)

While this is an area where proof does not exist in the form of tangiable points there seems to be to much of it for me to ignore on the basis "I do not know". Being a skeptic, I usually throw out something to the effect that I need proof. But how do you come up with that in this area where the whole thing is not physical at all? Throw out the money grubbing foretune-tellers, the attention grabbing fakes, and other charlations and you still have what seems to be a good precentage that believe these things exist. Some will give you examples if you are willing to listen and not scoff. This is every where and not isolated to one area of the country or world. Where I am going with this is it does seem to wide spread to be just some odd ball explaination from one or two individuals. And I am not talking fairy stories, elves or what not. Most everyone will know someone that believes firmly or says that they feel this or that in certain areas. It just seems to widespread to be concidence.

While reading someone's mind was not what I had in mind when I was thinking Psy. I do not believe that there is any of that out there. Other stuff, such as police help in unsolved cases gets some attention my the media occasionally and brings it to our attention. Yes, there are the duds. But how do you expain someone coming in from another state to help, knowing little of the case and coming up with the body buried some where? Think they did it? And in many of the cases this is repeated, not by one person in one case but by someone else on another unrealted case some where else. What gives here? Do I think I could do that? I know I couldn't. Could you?

    Hi Wet1,
You're right about the women being more open to the psy stuff because it seems more prevalent in women. But I've been thinking that women are much better at reading body language than men. In my last job I was working as a personal assistant to a male and I could anticipate most of what he needed before he asked for it. I know that's common, but I started to take notice of others around me, and I was picking up what they were about to say next. The more aware I became the easier it seemed to get. I'd joke and say to them 'I'm psychic' when they used to say "I was just thinking that". I'm wondering whether it's something that can be.... expanded or trained, if you will, by constant awareness. Possibly it's being able to read someone's body language so well that you can anticipate what's going on in their minds at that time. But I must admit there have been a lot of freaky unrelated topics that pop into my head and are spoken about straight after. (Wouldn't it be great to pick to the lotto numbers!). I did try, but no luck. I still don't get how men are so blocked to the idea. If you took the time to look at someone's eyes and facial expressions I think you'd start to pick up thoughts. I don't see it as a bad thing because I feel good when I've picked up that someone is having a downer and I can say to them do they want to talk about it or be left alone. They seem to appreciate the perceptiveness I guess. Maybe you should start noticing faces and expressions and see if the perception is something men have but don't bother to use. I'm pretty damned sure it would help in relationships. Women love to think that a guy has noticed or sensed what she's feeling. Give it a go with someone; just watch expressions (mainly the eyes) and I'm sure you'll start to understand what I'm talking about.
I'm probably rambling so I'll leave you with that task. I'd be curious to know if you have any success.
    Until next post,
    Teri

Simply being able to think faster, retaining information precisely, or easily learning and solving problems are extremely "powerful" brain functions........ much more so than being able to do a few goofy parlor tricks like "telekinesis" or "telepathy".

Yeah, pretty much true. That "using only a small part of the brain" is a goofy and VERY outdated myth that still gets spread around! We've known for a very long time - through various brain-imaging methods - that different parts of the brain have different functions and that usually the biggest majority of it is at work at any given time.
