    Hello,

I owe a thanks to someone here in this forum, only, unfortunately I don't know who it is. Someone, a while ago, menitoned the band Franz Ferdinand, way before they began playing on every single radio station and music channel. Taken by curiosity given their name (I'm a History student), I bought their CD about two months before ever hearing them on the radio.
This gave me two months of bliss in which to enjoy them before they became a hype. cult. whatever.

I don't know if anyone else works this way, but if I buy a CD and get to play it as often as I like and when I like, by the time it hits the radio/TV and becomes overplayed, I can't get sick of it (like unfortunately happened with the White Stripes)

Okay - well, that's my rant. Thanks to you - unknown forumer who first mentioned them!

PS: Download FF songs that aren't on the CDs (like Love and Destroy and Don't Stop)!

I bought their CD in, uummm, april or may. Maybe it was me, cos I remember mentioning them on here not long afterwards. Theyve gotten rather big overe here in the uK in the past couple of months, won an award or two, and been hyped to high heaven by one of Scotlands national newspapers, "the scotsman". Unfortunately I am now totally fed up hearing about them, since the scotsman is colluding with people to promote them as far and wide as possible, which is extremely annoying. there is a whole larger music scene out there in scotland, but you cant get to it for Franz ferdinand stuff.

Another band I like and got their album- "muse" is the band, and the album is "Absolution". I heard the song "hysteria" on radio one last year, and now theyre playing one of the other songs, I forget which one. So, hopefully "muse" have a good career ahead of them.

EEe... Muse! Muse are pretty big in the UK, aren't they? I went to their concert and got pretty damaged in the mosh pit. I mean seriously... MOSH PIT... during MUSE!!!!! =S It was bigger than the KoRn mosh! The QOTSA Mosh! The Linkinpark (???) mosh.... (i never said that)

I've known them for a few years now... they're great!

Upon further reflection, I dont think I mentioned Franz Ferdinand first, someone else did and I said "hey, theyre good, just got their album".

Muse are just about getting big in the UK. ONce a band starts getting played regularly on Radio 1, that means they are making the big time. So please tell me who they are and what theyve been doing in the past few years, given they apparently have loads of fans already.
I only heard "hysteria" once on the radio at the end of last year and realised i had to track it down. It was a late night slot on Radio one, when they play less popular stuff.

    P.S.
By big, I mean known commercially, selling in all teh big outlets, and getting airtime on national radio. It looks like theyve been getting on well on smaller stuff abroad etc, but here theyre only just getting big. We have far too many pathetic commercial radio stations, which have a playlist of the 12 most "popular" tunes at the moment, and are unutterably dull.

muse have been around for a few years, and have three albums (that i can think of, excluding singles/ep's)
    the first is called
showbiz - muse (around 1999 methinks)
    the second is:
origin of symmetry - muse (2001-ish?) this was the one that put them on the proverbial map if you know what i mean.
    then they had
absolution - muse, which is their latest, and best one.

i have all three except showbiz, and origin is basically absolution except not as refined. by that i mean the general music, and stuff, but its still a great album, and worth buying. if you want a sample track to hear, try finding either 'microcuts' or 'hyper music'.

actually, just get any of the songs, they all rule.

they are huge, just not (particularlly) mainstream. i live in the UK, and my circle of musical appreciators (

) consider muse to be mainstream pop rock that means they're fairly famous prog

I hate the shit out of muse, the singer is soooo Pablo Honey-like. Fugazi however

btw I do the same as jadedflower, if I catch a band that is already commercial I go looking for unheard of songs and covers made by those bands, then it's easier to get this feeling of "haha, I got all the songs they made before they were even popular...I'm so much fucking leeter than you snobs"

Muse will never ever ever reach the levels of Pablo Honey. Not even in their freakiest wildest dreams. Radiohead rock. No contest.

And yeah haha! Non-album tracks are usually so cool, and it is so much better to know things before they hit the radio big time *mumblemumble*

'who da feck' are pablo honey?
radiohead do rock, thats for sure, i had OK computer, which was '1337', and then have recently 'accquired' the bends, and im not sure if thats as great

    and as for
    "*mumblemumble*"
    *laughs*
non album tracks are not that great, the reason people put tracks on albums is (if there a good band that dont use 'filler' tracks) becasuse those tracks are the best.
if you like them, the only contradiction i can think of is system of a down.... who are seemingly dead now. why? well, their music wasnt fantastic, but also, they kept making songs that they didnt put in albums. THATS why

System of a down are good as well. But ive no idea what happened to them. I think theres nothign wrong with doing songs taht dont get on albums, as long as they are noticeably not very good.
However, I can see that teh singing in Muse does get close to being annoying warbling, but so far hasnt crossed the line.

"Pablo Honey" is an alias for Thom Yorke, obviously Radiohead's lead singer....it annoys me that the lead singer in Muse sounds a bit like him :bugeye:

I had heard of System of a Down ever since I was in middle school (1996, I must've been 14...oh the merry times

) and I'd been told by then they were a heavy kinda band and I was all about alternative back then (can you say...Collective Soul?

) [commercial break: this is where I run out on how many smilies I can use in a single post...stupid server...well, as long as it's free I guess :confusoid: ). When I heard System's first truly commerical release (aka Chop Suey) back in 2001 I wasn't impressed by the music, maybe the edgy lyrics sounded somewhat promising. Anyway, this year I got a better chance to listen to their music...I can't believe I didn't start listening to them much earlier than that, they're seriously one of the biggest musical revelations for me this year :fakesmiliecodetoconveypureunadulteratedhappynesswithoutwastingserverspace:

they are good, i like the more political angle, better than talking about drugs and girls all the time. if you like the lyrical display of soad try..... refused!! (cheap plug)

they were supposedly getting together sometime early this year to make another album, obviously didnt happen. they have basiclly put their band on hold while they all go off and do other things. the only band name i can remember is something about christian kittens. they all went very different ways. hopefully theyll make one more album to try and beat 'steal this album', and if they did, it surely would be the best as it seems to go in order of makeing:
system of a down --> toxicity --> steal this album.
