  1. thanks bud, hope retired life is grand, the Net is a good window on the world

in my life, I've met wackos from both ends, people that felt that Oklahloma City was justified, others that the 'Revolution" should start now, I've met educated fools & plain old stupid stumps, & the talkers, man, I guess they turn out to be lawyers when they grow up

sometimes you need a 3rd party to take the heat, or push for whats right (NATO in Yugoslavia)

Flag burners ought to be prosecuted for being jackasses. So you burn the symbol of freedom in protest of... freedom?

The American flag represents all the freedoms that protect burning it. By burning the flag you would essentially be saying "I'm an idiot, please brutalize me, then lock me up idefinitely without trial."

If I was a crazed Muslim, torching a flag would make sense. As an American, it wouldn't make any sense (unless I was like KKK yeah!).

"It's the Soldier, not the reporter,
who has given us freedom of the press.

It's the Soldier, not the poet,
who has given us freedom of speech.

It's the Soldier, not the campus organizer,
who has given us freedom to demonstrate.

It's the Soldier, not the lawyer,
who has given us the right to a fair trail.

And it's the Soldier who salutes the flag,
    who serves the flag,
whose coffin is draped in the flag,
that allows the protester to burn the flag."

    Which soldiers? In which war?
America hasn't fought any justified wars in the better part of a century.

well i think the point of burning occurs when that flag no longer represents those freedoms. if i was one of the many people who has had their rights taken away during some illegal containment justified by the patriot act, i sure as hell wouldnt think that flag stood for freedom anymore. the fact is that there are plenty of circumstances in this country when people's rights arent protected and their promised freedoms are taken away. if you were to ask those people what that flag represented im sure you would get a different answer than the one you would give. just look at the way african americans have been treated in this country since its inception. if their is someone out there who would be justified in torching that flag it would those who were continually discriminated against and treated as subhuman by this freedom loving country.
