I'll answer your question Bebelina. Myself, I am not unwilling to change my ideas or views on the world. Right now I see absolutly no need for a God, no evidence to support one and so many different views on what He is and how He acts that it seems about as credible as your average children's story.

Therefor, I've concluded from the information I have that God does not exist. I'll admit, I haven't studied religion intensly, but then again most theists have not studied evolution intensly and they still despise it (most anyway).

The way I look at it, I don't need a supernatural and omnipotent being to explain the world around me anymore. Science is doing that quite nicely right now. So until proof of God's existance is put forth, I will not think the idea credible or even likely. I say proof because I'm past the point where any old quote out of the Bible will do, a lot of people are satisfied with the fact that the Bible exists, therefor it must be truth, I mean, look at Loone. I for one am not.

It al depends on the way you look at things,...I don't see the need that either one of this visions should stand in the way of the other,...I think they even ad up to eachother,...

    Hmm,....

Maby that's what they are also trying to find out,...maby they hope if they let "us" (humans) wonder and ravel about it enough that we eventually stumble across "the" answer. Maby for them we are merely a biological neural network (maby one of many) wich they use.

When I define characteristics, I am defining this "god" by Christian thought. Any views that I express about the creature are sarcasm. I think it to be idiotic to think that a being could exist that is of "higher-intelligence". The reason Tony1 may say that we give characteristics is due to his blinded sight take on the bible. The bible is very specific about these traits. It shows in explicit detail the revenge and jealousy of which this being is capable. Whether this discredits the book itself or the being that the book is based upon is of little consequence.
I am reminded of a statement made in the PBS series, Evolution. The person in question remarked that the Christians view this as a war. They went on to say that in this war no person will ever be able to claim victory. I am not the scientific worshipper that Tony1 may wish to portray me as. Instead I covet only one aspect of humanity: reason. On any position I am only swayed by this particular ability. I know the word for Tony1's position, something I have much distaste for: faith. As far as I am concerned this is the real battle. Do we who use reason to interpret the world allow the victory of those who would crumble thought with faith.

Faith is often used in conjunction with the word blind. This is the most accurate attribute that is applied to this trait. It is in the purest form a circumvention of fear. This is also similar in consequence to the circumvention that occurs in mass murderers. No wonder these people are so likely to convert while in prison. Going from one belief system to its parallel is an easy change. We reason that only negative consequences can come from mass-murder. They use faith that somehow a good effect shall come of the heinous crime. The difference is that simple.

But all you are doing is worming your way around the most essential question. WHY do you require evidence for something that you do NOT believe in??? Those who already believe in it have their own ways of proving it to themselves, which would not be valid as proof for someone who doesn´t believe in the nature of the proof and what it´s trying to prove. And again, why does a person need proof of something already in their mind dismissed as not real? It´s an impossible equation....unless there is hope of actually finding proof.

If you want a straight and honest communication about the phenomena , sarcasm will bring the discussion to the opposite. And with mockery plaster a persona upon a phenomena you have orginally stolen from those who DO blieve in it, will not help either.

I´m not saying that I believe in God the way that anybody else have manufactured it, I believe in my very own way. And I allow others to do the same. Because I´m a GOOD person....

That is why I want proof. No, I don't believe it, but does that mean I should flat out forget about it? No, it is an option to explaining the world. It's not the option I would chose, but if one day I see new evidence to support it that I can actualy relate to I may have to re-evaluate my explanations for the world that I have today.

Just because I don't believe it, doesn't mean I will not even consider it.

Attention, Decko's last post has been removed due to abusive language in violation of the TOA. The post has also been reported to the Big Kahuna himself, Dave. Let's keep it civil. I know it's not easy to do with such a passionate subject as religion, but all users of Exosci have agreed to certain terms. If anybody can't live with those terms, find another BBS.

So did you look at Jesus? Blonde hair and blue eyes? Tall features?. Hummm...How much of a bible consists of Jesus teachings?? And how much of it is of Pauls teachings?. Do you follow jesus? Or you worship him?? Didn't you say he is a God?. But jesus never say I am a God and worship me. Instead he always said worship our father in heavens.

It is ridculous when you said the Only God you are going to see is Jesus.

How many Gods are there? Oh I am sorry now you will tell me the so called, later inserted story of holy trinity. Also product of Paul. Also would you be kind enough to respond to your own post " Bible is true". Godless and I gave you some info there care to go throug that? or would you like to avoid it all?.

Yes they can. Without any factual evidence any speculative explanation that seems to fit their experiences will be used, especially if the ideas are sponsored by religious zealots.

Not so long ago virtually everyone on the planet believed the world was flat. Just because a majority of people believe something doesn't mean it is true. A democratic vote doesn't determine truth, but just what people want.

    Bebelina,

There is a very simple answer to your question. Atheists do not seek proof of of any god spontaneously. Rather, there is quite an exception when it comes to Christianity. The Christian society puts all sorts of pressure on unbelievers to believe. The reply of the unbelievers: give me credible evidence.

That's all there is to it. If Christians didn't procelytize, atheists wouldn't be demanding proof.

    bdmart,

    You said:

In reply, consider the fact that prevention is rarely if ever 100% effective. Does that mean prevention is pointless?

Yes, I can understand that. I seems like USA is very much influenced by Chistianity as the norm. I don´t know if that´s where you are from, anyway, it´s the only country that I know of that has a BIBLE BELT!!!!

We don´t have that kind of religiousness over here. The church is very much ...dead. But instead a new kind of free spirituality ( call it new age if you really insist upon it..

Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!

    is growing here.
It was rather comical when a friend of mine went to see Marilyn Manson , when he was performing in Stockholm, because when he used the same "party tricks" that shock people so well in USA ( like tearing the Bible apart) people rolled their eyes over here. Thinking that was old and not innovative at all, and who gets upset if someone tears a book apart? So my friend was dissapointed. Mocking religion over here is like mocking the ...bingoplaying senoir citizens, or wait, I think even they are a larger group of society than the Christians. But you get the picture...

But its a futile battle asking for proof of something that is unprovable unless you believe in it.

Quantum Physics, Faith and Biblical Explanations

    Decko,
There will be scientific prove. We are getting there...

Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!

Quantum Physics is the way... as soon as we get a theory of everything we "discover" God (eventhough He tried so much to communicate with us).

Oh... yeah... this is very important for everyone:

HOW DO YOU WANT GOD TO COMMUNICATE WITH YOU IF YOU CLOSE YOUR EYES AND YOUR EARS FROM HIM?
HOW DO YOU WANT TO EXPERIENCE SOMETHING IF YOU DON'T ACCEPT IT'S EXISTENCE?

I think someone already tried to pass this message here... isn't it Bebelina?

Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!

But people still close their eyes and their ears to reality, just because they are afraid of losing their bases and are lazy enought to begin everything again.

Thank you guys! I've just understood the interpretation of the Bible!!! It is said in Matthew 12:25 :

He hide himself from you because you are proud of yourselves and because you are not simple as little children!! Empty your minds for the way to the Truth is the simplicity (as I said in my signature)!! For the Truth is simple!! If you want a proof of God, Decko, this is the easiest way. Scientists will discover that the Universe is much more simple then they think of it today!!

Many things in the Bible have double meaning! An immediate meaning, literal, and a hidden one. I show you.
    Mattew 9:27-31 :

What means that? Two interpretation: The litteral and the symbolical. The literal, you already know. The symbolical: The blind men are people that can't see the Truth, like you. As you can see, faith is essential to see the Truth, because if you don't accept that something even might exists, how can you see it? .It can be in front of your eyes, but you can't see. These are the blind men. When He touched their eyes, it's like the Truth opening their eyes. The Truth was already within them, but they needed an incentivator. Just as I am here. Jesus told them not to tell about it because anyone would understand the Truth anyways. They tryed anyways, as I'm trying here!!!

What Quantum Physics have to do with this? Quantum Physics talks about the properties of atoms according to your beliefs. Two Scientists can see an atom in different perpectives. The Faith models the Truth. The way an atom acts reflects your beliefs. This is the Scientific explanation to Faith, which englobes Metaphysics too (but Metaphysics, sometimes, talks too much about thoughts). Too many other things to explain... that's all for now.

    Blessings,
    Nelson

We do however have a " whining belt". People in that area have a special dialect that when they talk, they sound like they are whining.

    I´m not from that area.

Well, I guess I also get a little bit upset when litterature of any kind is being destroyed in whatever manner, but in this case it just became ridiculous and didn´t achieve the shocking effect upon the audience as the popstar had in mind. I´m assuming that he had that in mind. Or maybe he just felt like tearing somehting apart, and all he could find was a Bible. Who knows? Maybe he´s a deeply religious man.

How would this work? I would imagine all we would discover is a formula that can be used to describe most (if not all) interactions between matter. I don't see how it can be a religious experience, at the most we will learn how God's creation works. But maybe I'm just weird

So in other words you admit that there is no such thing. I wonder you are deceived by very basics of your religion. What to say about rest of it? You read your own bible and still act opposite. Amazing.
